UMMMMM.....breach and burst AR are beasting, I'll tear a Cal Ass. into pieces but I need to be close enough. That can be tough on the wide open maps or if I don't have enough blues or greens with me. As a Gal assault I'll often run into the flank of a group and quickly take out 2-3, but then I get sideswiped by some stupid scout I didn't see and finished off by some other random guy in the area because in order to get in range I had to separate from my pack. To many reds focused on me.
I'm thinking AR might be even better as a defensive weapon: focus on holding an area/defending a cluster of blues and let the reds come into my optimal. That way I'm in range without having to be Rambo.
As for where the rifles are at, I think the normal AR just needs a range buff up to 7600. It would be right between breach and burst. the TAR needs a slightly larger clip and less ADS dispersion and kick growth. It doesn't hit consistently enough at its effective range. |

I use AR in an aslt suit and have since beta and it's fine. You just have to be smart about your engagements and watch your distance from target. If i get lazy or tired I get shot up in a gun fight against RR or CR but if I'm on my game I can usually sneak a little closer and make it a good fight. I kill a lot of RR and CR users and they kill me. As an AR user I have no complaints. |

OP is misinformed on the weapon he's using. Let me shine some light on the subject.
Plasma rifle is designed for the Gal assault, a close range brawler suit. The longer range version of the Gal plasma rifle is the TAR. Both of these weapons are shield based weapons, with the current meta in this game being armor the plasma rifle can be rather ineffective against those suits.
Now the AR destroys people in CQC engagements. Please don't tell me it doesn't because I run that rifle too and have Prof. and Sharpshooter maxed. 30+ kill games are not uncommon.
As for a buff to the plasma rifle to increase range I agree, but this buff has to come with the Gal assault bonus and not on the weapon itself. This so the actual suit the weapon was designed for benefits from this buff and not all the scrubs that want to do it all with one weapon.
Me as a Cal only user (who gets wrecked by skilled AR users CQC btw), i would like a increase in kick for the RR (extra drawback) and give the Cal assault a kick reduction per level, so that people will actually have to spec into logical combinations (suit and weapon) to be effective with it. Again to counter the scrubs that want to do it all with one weapon.
CCP managed to do this for the Min and the Amarr and I hope for the love of god that they will do this for the Cal and Gal too. That will hopefully stop the endless RR OP and AR UP threads.

I'm being dropped from about 60m or better.
I was horrified to find out the Breach AR is viable and that a Militia AR can kill from 62.5m
