CCP Rattati posted a nice image http://i.imgur.com/GbLkMy9.png of the hotflix delta range vs. dps tweaks for the rifles.
I would like to see Legion allow customization of weapons much deeper than the system we have in dust where player choose a variant of their weapon.
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1wFk7dY1wXuz6KsEKqoQZ1rvsYeaN0vl6_Iy1tARPGIo/edit?usp=sharing
Using Rattati's image as a guideline, connect the points between the weapons of the same class, and you get a general idea of how well the weapon should be able to perform at any number of ranges and DPS.
Have one type of rifle, Plasma Rifle, Rail Rifle, Scrambler Rifle, Combat Rifle. No variants available, but instead each player gets to modify their chosen weapon by choosing some options on a slider.
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1YC__napM0pZrrSSDGPHelzgdR-6OHxE89LSiUtxDvDM/edit?usp=sharing
Every weapon has a Max and Min value for Damage, RPM, Effective Range, Clip Size, Max Ammo, Dispersion, Kick, Fire Mode, Reload Speed, and Scope Zoom.
Every weapon could be modified based on a few factors.
#1, if you change something in a positive manner, making it better than the standard in some way, it requires some value of 'modification points', each weapon has a maximum value of modification points available to it based on the weapon tier. Officer weapons would have the maximum value of mod points available, militia would have the least amount of mod points available.
#2, you can offset a value of mod points by reducing some other factor of the weapon
#3 the CPU/PG of the weapon will increase if it has a net negative value of mod points available after modifications, based on how many mod points were used. If a weapon uses all available mod points to increase its atributes, it increases in CPU/PG more than a weapon that uses only half of available mod points.
#4 the CPU/PG of the weapon will decrease if it has a net positive value of mod points available after modifications. This is like choosing the 'specialized' weapon, maybe you reduce something like clip size/max ammo or whatever in order to make the weapon easier to fit.
This would eliminate the need for 'variants' of weapons, but would of course require a lot of balancing for how much of an increase/decrease of weapon values you get per mod point.
My inclination is that, using RPM as an example, if going from 600 RPM to 660 RPM costs 1 mod point as an improvement to the weapon, then a decrease from 600RPM to 520 RPM would free up a mod point. That is to say, gaining back 1 mod point through decreasing a value has a higher penalty to that value than you would gain as a benefit if you instead raised that value at the cost of 1 mod point.
Not only would we no longer need variants, but players would finally be able to tweek their favorite racial weapon to fit their playstyles. The tweaking of the weapon could be tied to the dropsuit fitting that the player has saved. |

Weapon variants are still useful, as they can allow CCP to test how each different customization item would behave. For instance, the tactical variants can be how weapons behave with part A installed, and assault variants are with part B.

Yes, and no. I am going to be honest TL;DR what I did read seemed convoluted and complex. A simpler system would be best use the slot system. Slots that can modify the rate of fire (and damage thus allowing for the variants) and optics are a must but you can add more if it doesn't upset the balance ammo, extra damage, etc

Well legion is going to have randomized salvage which, from what I hear about destiny, can be a real pain in a shooter. I've always wanted this game to have manufacturing of weapons where you can craft variants and reverse engineer loot.
If it was designed with pc in mind there would have to be research labs that studies salvage to give a corp more options on what type of weapon you can make. The blueprint for that special variant can be stolen and the only reason why you'd want to protect it is to keep it for your corp members only, or to make sure you're the only one selling that weapon.
So I like your idea as long as it takes time and manpower to even start making variants and it gives another reason to stay active in pc. |

The slide system gives so much variation that it would be hard to balance. A slot system can be balanced much easier, as CCP can buff/nerf individual weapon mods without effecting the whole sytem.

I could see modifying a Rifle to increase range also having the effect of increasing charge time on a Rail Rifle, increasing kick on a Plasma Rifle, increasing dispersion on a Combat rifle, and increasing heat buildup on a Scrambler Rifle, but I could also see converting from full auto to semi auto having the effect of reducing charge time/kick/dispersion/heat.

As I understand it the Salvage system is meant to be a way of getting the open market working at the beginning of the game, but they have not ruled out adding manufacturing later, and when/if they do, they can add new types of salvage consisting of weapon components that can be used in the manufacturing process, while reducing the number of fully intact items that spawn in order to increase demand for manufactured goods.

There's no player trading in destiny. By the way, is there a way to see replies to your posts?

The flag next to your name at the top of the page will tell you when there is a replay to a thread if you were the original poster, and will tell you when someone GÇ£LikesGÇ¥ one of your posts. Just check the drop-down next to it.
Also, i was notified of your reply, probably because the little "Receive notifications for this topic" just above the post button, was checked off when I posted it.

And have each weapon start point based off of a fram size (side arm, assault, heavy weapons)
i know that i spent more time having fun with dead space 3 build a weapon system then the fights Sounds Awesome!
Also sounds like EVE:Legion Patch 5.0.
