Of all the nerfs that tanks and dropships have gotten to tone them down, the one thing that would have been the magic number would have been ammo capacity.
The assualt dropship nerf has not stopped assult dropshops from hovering and firing at infantry for far too long. Only if someone brought out a swarm would they stop. That doesn't always happen nor should it be expected as a solution to stop the ads from chasing every little redberry around. How about nerf what the problem is. It is the fact that they can fire on infantry for so long unimpeded. They can still be strong, but in a situation like Ambush they would have a tougher time anyway due to ammo loss rather than less defense.
With tanks, the blaster vs. infantry problem could have been fixed with less ammo capacity. That would have created the "waves of opportunity" that was mentioned.
Supply depots would then be very, very important.
This was an early expectation when ammo for vehicles was first introduced, before the patch hit that added it.
Of all the things people complained about, the complaints of ammo cap as a limiting factor for vehicles fell by the wayside.
A tank could be more powerful, but without ammo it is useless. Other things could be tweaked such as recall limits, ammo resupply limits etc.
Some maps already have a problem with vehicles being able to reload at a depot or lack of a redline depot thereof.

I remember maps where I tried desperately to reach up with my HAV's barrel to tap the Supply Depots for a resupply...only to realise that my Turret doesn't count......

nope. they were unkillable because of skill stacking and AB being active every 10 seconds and being faster then swarm missiles and rails hitting at 200m outside the range of swarms and missiles being stupidly powerful with OP splash damage/radius made them the unkillable gods of the sky..
so ccp buffed swarm twice. travel speed and follow speed.
and nerfed AB's and ads speed so missiles could actually connect.
1 problem down. (actually being able to apply enough damage to ADS to drive them off as its still hard to kill an ads solo)
next was the removal of skill stacking (atleast i think so)
and then the damage/ROF nerf from 10%(50% at 5) down to 3% (15% at 5) that helped with their godly slaying powers although missile splash is still a bit powerful
all these changes has balanced vehicles to a point of which i feel we may be able to release the old vehicles again and balance those too..
which would mean the return of ADVANCED grade vehicles and once they are balanced proto vehicles.. which will be a major tipping point
ps. i however would like to see supply depos be a 360degree Sphere not just a circle.. that way HAV LAV and dropships can use them

I approve of this. I still see ads all the time though and they are still effective just not one shoting every enemy effective.

lol you think a ADS matters in pubs? Every 1 and their mother runs to a supply depot to get swarms when you show up with a ADS. Dropships are a joke now and not worth the SP.
Bright is the opposite of dark! Who would have thought of that?!
