Here's the problem: The hotfixes should never end.
World of Warcraft is about to celebrate it's tenth anniversary, and they're still regularly tweaking the balance between classes almost every patch. People need to stop thinking they're entitled to a redo every month and learn to adapt to new gameplay.

WoW has a capped number of skill points. Whereas in EVE/DUST, you simply gain more skill points if you want new roles and skills.

Technically? Probably. But such a process would take a lot of time out of dev work, and it'd be prone to errors happening. And it'd be a one-time fix, rather than a long-term solution.

C'mon, you can share the number with us, I bet it is well over 1 million.
This is why I have no sympathy for respec cry threads. Some of the same people are crying after they've gained five or six million SP from passive gain alone, not even counting if they've been playing the game. Respec posters are simply crying about a game mechanic they don't understand, and refusing to wrap their heads around the way it works.
Spectral Clone wrote:Indeed. Soraya has a very good point here. WoW get respecs all the time, and even have respecs payed for with ingame currency. This is probably why the game still lives. In WoW, you can even have dual talent specializations, i.e. two builds that you can instantenously switch in-between. CCP is so far behind Blizzard in this regard.
The difference is, as explained earlier in the thread already, is that WoW has a capped skillset. You can't expand past that skillset, only change it out for another one. That design of a skill system intends respecs to exist, which is why they always have.
DUST uses an infinite skill system, you can always get new roles and new abilities. A respec actually breaks the entire design of that game mechanic. Respecs should never happen in a system where skill points are constantly being gained.
Additionally, respecs in WoW aren't there for when you cry about an ability being nerfed. Because respecs only really offer the ability in WoW to switch between entirely different roles. Like whether your paladin is a tank, a damage dealer, or a healer. If you're a damage dealer, and you get nerfed, you're still nerfed.
Accept your nerf, learn to deal. Adapt.
