Does anyone actually like what we have now, the near-silence?

I miss hearing the old battle-drum music and feeling like a predator in Ambush:
I miss the turrets making a more "mechanical" sound when they turned.
As for visuals: I miss the occasional map that had a dust storms/fog in it, obscuring targets and making people look like ghosts fading in and out in the distance.
I also hope that for Legion you model some of the sounds of weapon fire and detonations off of a real military firing range.
EDIT: Why not make the music selections optional, like a playlist like old EVE or Gran Turismo games or whatever, so everyone wins?

I miss the war barge where you had 30-45 seconds to look at squads or the other team. Looks like bitczhing and whining got rid of that too. |

It makes me sad to read that there were so many things that were cooler back in beta than now. I really like that first song. Did the songs play in the war barge room or did they actually play during battles?
As cool as they were, maybe the songs were taken out of battles because it was hard to hear from what direction shots were coming from, or if there was someone running around near you (although to be honest, I can't hear that right now, even if it is silent).
And OMG, maps used to have storms and fogs? Why the heck did that get taken out? Anyways, I managed to get someone who quit dust to play a couple of matches with me the other day. He said he was disappointed with how it has changed since beta. But he seems cautiously optimistic about Rattatti and the new CCP Shanghai group. Said he might get back into it...
and then said no, when I asked for isk. (o_O )

I'd like to point out a neat theory I have about the current title screen soundtrack.
Musicians tend to create motifs to represent themes through instruments or melodies or just recurring musical elements etc and I believe it's very appropriate for the game's themes, specifically reincarnation- using a technique lifted straight out of the soundtrack of Patton.

Much like patton, there is a quick succession of notes with a delay effect to reference reincarnation and perhaps for dust, the ever echoing effect of our actions taken today.
You can not only hear it in the title menu, but hear a version that expands on that musical motif in this trailer.

Personally, I think it'd be a shame to copy and paste some music from EVE onto Dust, when we could have had tracks that could potentially be pretty well thought out and designed for the game. |

I miss these songs. They remind me of when I played beta and had so much hope for how awesome this game would be.
Now all I can do is hope Legion delivers the game I have wanted to play for so many years.

Yaay! I experienced some of these sounds between April and July 2013, and I can attest they were very instrumental to completing that immersive GÇ£New Eden on PS3GÇ¥ atmosphere. It is surprisingly different from what seems to be the audio experience in EVE Online, and I think it gives us mercs our own exclusive and cool identity. This is ESSENTIAL to selling a game to new players, and helps addict them to staying in the game for longer sessions (and returning for more sessions).
--Yes, the dust blowing and fog effects were a GREAT component in the matches. Okay, I suspect the Devs ambitiously wanted the effects to have a grander finished look---but I hope that wasnGÇÖt the toffee-nosed artist reason why it was removed---many players may have LIKED what they were able to pull off, and would be happy to see it return to the matches.
--Yes, the GÇ£Battle request acceptedGÇösearching for suitable contractsGÇ¥ ought to be returned. ItGÇÖs what Dust is all about, Contract killing as a galactic career.
--For a brief while, we even had wincing and GÇ£arrghGÇ¥ sound when your character is killed in a headshot. It was cool, a LITTLE annoying, (I think we requested it be GÇ£toned downGÇ¥ rather than removed)... it was removed entirely.
This is a good thread, but I think we need to post them in the Request/Feedback area, and make it very VISIBLE. This ought to be an easy Hotfix task,... it shouldnGÇÖt take priority over the other items Rattati has on the schedule,... but itGÇÖs a tiny change that has HUGE boosts to the gameplay experience.
ItGÇÖs good that you players brought this up.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
