Just heard some guys talking about this. So are our sidearm kills not counted for us during this event? Do we have to report to CCP how many kills we get with sidearms during this event? If so, won't everyone just say that they hit the cap?

You count your kills if you, yourself, want to keep record of your own accomplishments.
CCP will know know how many kills you've achieved during the event. |

They run a script at the end of the event which tells them how many kills you've gotten with a Sidearm, and gives your character the total amount of SP you've earned.
Going by word of mouth would be far too time consuming, and inaccurate.

Seconded, I feel it is the responsibility of the more reputable forumeers to use said credibility to mislead people into believing things that ordinarily wouldn't be reasonable, nay even farfetched, if only to reinforce the htfu choices matter credo we all adhere to.

I'm sorry the forum warriors were giving you crap. Just a little harmless joshing.
The truth is for this event CCP wants you to take a picture of each kill as it appears in the killfeed. You can also take a video if your timing isn't very good, but they said you have to provide a voice commentary letting them know when to look at the killfeed for your kills. You can upload them directly on the Dust514 website under the contact us. Just send all your pictures and videos via mail. Please put in the subject line "Side Arm Event" and then the weapon and number of kills i.e. Ion Pistol 789.
You have to send these in daily in order for them to be counted. The SP from the event will be given to you the day after the event pre-spent into the sidearm you chose to use.
This will prevent people from breaking the honor code.

When you log in, check your kill totals on your stats sheet.
It will give you a good idea.
Otherwise their system takes care of it automatically.
