Not a single reference to DUST, Legion, or any Devs from those teams:

Frankly, I'm disappointed in CCP Rouge. I think this would have been a good opportunity to show off Legion's progress, and interact with the community.

Imagine if Blizzard hyped up Project TItan for the last 5 years. Teasing you on how the gameplay, the graphics, the visuals, the dev blogs and snapshots.
Then one week after having heated debates with Destiny Fanbois who are celebrating their launch the Titan Fanboys are told their precious game is canceled for good. No more mmo-sci-fi first person shooter for blizzard. So the alternative seems to be going into silent mode. This doesn't inspire confidence, and makes players fear the worst: that there is very little progress made. I think a conservative (not overhyped) session would have been much better.
What I would have liked to have seen: CCP Rouge takes the stage and apologizes again for how things went down at Fanfest. Shows a chart that indicate DUST's new player retention is higher than its ever been. DUST is stronger than its ever been. This has given us a lot of confidence that there is a solid market for a FPS in New Eden. We've created the missing racial heavy weapons, turrets and vehicles. Here's what they look like [shows slides]. We're in the process of fine tuning these, and we want to get them into DUST so you can help us make them great. It will take more time to downscale these for the PS3 so expect a client patch with these new assets in early 2015. We're also announcing some new BPO packs for the various races at $75 each.
Now let's talk about Legion. We've had some great feedback on Legion and that has caused us to reexamine some of our progression ideas. Here's CCP Z to talk about some of our ideas for progression in Legion. [CCP Z talks for a while] let's open it up for questions.
I think that would have been awesome and gone a long way towards mending the wounds from Fanfest. I don't think it overhyped anything, and it would give the community something to look forward to again, instead of this weird limbo state we're currently in.

That's where the difficulties comes in though. A single photo snap from the game no matter how mundane can be hyped to warp 10 because of community members. As for feedback about legion and the loop between cpm, community, and ccp due to the simple fact that CCP is a business and has business things to do and regrettably there is not enough clones of CCP Rogue to go around. CCP is however very mindful of the situation. They're not ignorant of it at all and are very well aware and if the CPM didn't make it that clear to them then we'd probably need to get fired (the council). You just have to patiently wait along with everyone else while CCP thinks of a means or way of moving forward. After all we don't need a third Rouge Wedding at Eve Vegas. The photo doesn't have to be an in-game screenshot. It could just be of the model firing the weapon on a white background. CCP should be capable of producing these and getting them into DUST by Q1 2015. If not then there really is very little hope for the future. I think the negative tin foiling is much worse than the warp 10 hype, and all recent indications seem to be negative. We're LONG overdue to hear from Rouge.

Realistically, I don't think news on their progress should revolve around an event like EVE Vegas. I'd be unhappy if it did. I expect them to just be more interactive with the community in general, here on the Internet, all the time. Face palm Can you... expand on that a bit, perhaps? I can expand on my thoughts: I'd rather Legion was talked about more openly here on the forums, rather than being held for events for marketing purposes. Obviously I'm not happy with the current level of interaction there, but I'm, if anything, glad people aren't being kept in the dark just to save stuff for a convention. What can be done to get CCP to communicate more? If you guys are telling them to do so and they're ignoring you, what else can we do? What about inviting CCP Rouge onto the Biomassed podcast?

I wouldn't say devs are ignoring us. We have a pretty good dialogue with certain devs, others could perhaps be better. But they have in many cases, particular reasons for doing or not doing things, or timelines. And in a lot of cases, other factors from other parts of the company can come into play, like marketing. (I have a standing point that being really really open with your playerbase tends to be great for marketing, but I digress.) And I think CCP has learned it's lesson about promising things ahead of time, they're cautious now about saying things that might not be true later.
I think one of the strongest components in convincing CCP to be more open, is seeing the response and reaction to how existing open dialogue has worked. For instance, the good reception to CCP Rattati and CCP Logibro's work on hotfixes. It's a case-in-point proof that open development works for CCP really well when they do it.
But it's a cultural thing. It takes a lot of time, and a lot of changed minds to evolve the way people communicate. We just continue to push the process from our end. Like you said, communication IS good marketing. It would be great if the CPM could get to have a meeting with Marketing at some point to make the case. I think CCP Rouge could probably carve 15 minutes out of his weekend to join you guys on the show.
Knowing the DUST/Legion team won't be at EVE Vegas has really made me more pessimistic on the future than anything else since Fanfest. We're at a really precarious point right now. The hotfix process has been really amazing, but the list of things to balance is growing smaller. Yes we can add some variants to existing stuff, but the lack of fresh content will increasingly become problematic over the next 3-6 months. The lack of any posted progress on Legion, the anxiety of Legion being in limbo, and them not attending EVE Vegas (because they don't have anything to show?) is making the doubt about the future grow significantly.
If I were the EP, I'd take these concerns seriously, and either post an update, or drop in for a 15 minute conversation with the CPMs on Biomassed. It would do a lot of good to reassure the player base. I'm normally pretty optimistic about things, but when I found out about EVE Vegas, my confidence has soured considerably.
Also there's a difference in promising things far off in the future, and shorter term things that players can look forward to. Promising things that could easily change is a bad idea, but it's a mistake to be so scared of disappointing your players that you never give them something to look forward to in the coming months.

Soraya Xel wrote:Bear in mind that EVE Vegas isn't really a primary venue for CCP. They are directly involved in it, but it's still a partially player-run thing as well. It's never been the place for big announcements. I wouldn't take any info or lack thereof from Vegas as a serious sign.
But I also badly want to see more updates from the Legion team on the forums. Even if it's a "Yup, still here" on occasion. CCP Rattati, of course, was known for just chilling with players long before he had a public-facing role, and I wish more devs did that. It may not be a PRIMARY venue, but last year they announced FW 2.0 and the LP store (they also talked about PC 2.0--which was a mistake, since it was clearly nowhere near being done). I can't shake the feeling that if things were going well, they would have jumped at the chance to redeem themselves for the Fanfest fiasco. The fact that they're not doing so is a pretty clear indicator that they are not where they want to be. Couple this with silence from CCP Rouge, CCP Z, etc. and one begins to feel like the future is less rosy. This matters because players will be less likely to purchase items like BPOs that are predicated on a long-term future to extract the value from. Reduced sales due to anxiety hurt revenue, which hurts the ability to produce content--a vicious cycle.
