Hi!
I've been playing this game for just a few days now, and i've got a small problem, i asked on the learning coalition place and someone was very kind and gave me some information, but i forgot some of what he said and i just wanted to check here... i'm really sorry if this isn't the sort of thing i should be posting here...
Basically, i had my money stolen. I went into the squad finder and saw a squad that said that he would double my ISK, and some other people said that he wasn't lying, so i gave him all my money. But, of course, he didn't give it back... I'm so stupid, i didn't realise he was tricking me!
All i wanted to ask was if this was against the rules, and if there was some way i can report him for this? I feel really bad too, because someone had given me a lot of ISK to help me get started, and i lost it all...

While there is a way to report him I will basically give you in short what the GM is going to say about.

Its a legit thing to steal money or make false offers such as "ISK doubling". Never trust any 1 who asks for ISK cause he knows some magical trick to double your ISK. Its all a lie and those people only exist to grief. Well have fun with your empty wallet.

actually jedek was doubling isk i sent him hald a mil just to be sure and he sent me back a mil so i sent him 5 and got back 10. |

This is perfectly legal in Dust 514, Eve Online, and extremely likely for Project Legion and Valkyrie. In other words, if it's a game developed by CCP, expect dirty deeds done dirt cheap.

Welcome to New Eden.
Being smarter than the Scammers is part of the game. As a new player you may be more susceptible to scams, just as you are more susceptible to bullets until you get your skills trained up. As long as they are only dealing in in-game currency and assets the Scammers are not breaking the rules. Scamming is considered social-economic PVP.
Of course without player to player trading, or an open market, there is very little ability to participate in this aspect of the game, so scams are very simple and obvious, such as the one you experienced.
DonGÇÖt feel bad for falling for it. In many games this would be an illegal activity. Take this as a learning experience and be more cautious next time.
I have found that playing in a universe where such things are allowed makes the bonds you form with people that you come to trust that much more rewarding. When/if you get into Corp management, Corp security becomes a mini game of its own.
I have often said that Trust is the most valuable currency in New Eden.

RMTers get nailed pretty hard due to the simple fact every 0.01 isk is tracked in this game by logs.

As a long time citizen of New Eden I had also considered this possibility. It becomes an automatic part of the risk assessment on every transaction.
A donation to this player can be considered either:
a)A donation to a new player in need of assistance.
b)A tip to show your appreciation for a Scam well-orchestrated.
If the amount of ISK you are considering donating is not an amount that you would consider excessive for either category, then it does not matter which possibility is correct. There is thus no risk to this transaction.
However, if the amount of ISK you intend to donate to this player is in excess of what you would consider appropriate to show your appreciation for a Scam well-orchestrated, then you are taking a risk in sending this player that sum of ISK, as it may turn out to be a Scam.
Only gamble with what you can afford to lose.
In the end though, it is only ISK.

Honestly, I'm not an *******, I promise! I only did it as a one-off; it's not like I need the isk anyway! lol
And this is the other side of Scamming in New Eden. Once you do it, no one ever forgets!
It is a lot easier to build a bad reputation in New Eden than it is to build a good one, or to repair one once tainted.
This is not meant in any way as a slight against Dreis ShadowweaverGÇÖs character. His post was simply a good illustration of my point.

Players are using bad mechanics to do it. Bad mechanics is bad and lazy programming is lazy. Scamming by being good at social manipulation is one thing and can be RP based. Manipulating bad game design is something anybody can and does do in EVE. Jita chat is full of wannabes.

Using the same PSN as your main is not well-orchestrated at all. If I had sent ISK I would have felt cheated!
