Serious question - at 20m SP and loving life/death in DUST, what are the best reasons for playing the other modes?

In my opinion , PC is the place to be IF you have a great group and can field a solid 16 man team. However for most average / casual players its just not something most are interested in.
FW, well each faction has a few weapons that are proto with lower fitting requirements (nice) and equipment that is slightly better than proto in some ways (very nice)
Other than that though pubs are good.

PC is tough to get into. Many players don't like the idea of having to stick with a role or stay in a spot based upon the strategy being used for that battle.
They also don't like waiting around before the battles only to not be selected for the match.
They also don't like being asked to skill into areas in order to be utilized more often.
They HATE it when they are told that certain things just simply are not viable in the PC setting.
But fighting in PC is in my opinion the most rewarding thing in Dust. At the same time it is by far the most discouraging thing, although much less the case now that passive ISK has been removed.

FW is nice cause you can get specilist versions of some proto weapons which take up as much CPU & PG as adv tier. Gear in general is also just cheaper from the loyalty store.
PC is just a mode for people to suck their own dicks in but I'll be damned if they aren't good at it. Seriously though, the only reason to play it is for bragging rights.

The biggest thing is that FacWar and PC have a more direct effect on the game. FacWar affects FacWar in EVE, and you'll see real EVE pilots providing orbital strikes. You queue for a particular faction you support, so there's a lore aspect too. PC has really no meaning for EVE, but is the high tier ability to "own" land in DUST.
I think there's a lot more we can do to make FacWar appealing to players.

Yeah, the districts are a corporate asset. And you have to be in a corporation with roles to purchase and launch attacks on someone else's district.

There are potentially ISK rewards for PC, but that is solely dependent on the success of your group. For many it's just another ISK sink despite what you read on these forums.
FW provides higher tier gear with lower SP requirements (like AUR gear) and some items perform better than regular proto gear.
FW provides no ISK payout.

The lack of isk puts me off it I think. I remember trying it a while back and being into the idea of factional weapons - but I lost too much isk and found myself reluctant to go back.

Actually its awesome to be able to participate in matches where it's all on your group. There are not 5 snipers or 5 tanks or 2 dudes racing LAVs.
It's also nice to iron out strategies and see them work.
I don't know anyone that plays PC to be able to brag. Bragging and smack talking is just a byproduct of any competitive human interaction, it's weird that you haven't recognized that in your everyday life.

PC to most people may be different but it all boils down to enjoy fighting in a clan battle setting. isk, bragging, owning a bunch of districts means absolutely nothing it really is just a way to have clan battles and clan battles are what most people who play FPS games like to take part in.

Top tier PC is the only place you're going to find 16 guys in full proto, using combined arms tactics, playing in a completely objective focused manner. The level of talent and coordination is significantly higher than in pub matches. I think the primary draw is the level of competition and organization. The chirping is either an ancillary benefit or a minor distraction, depending on your point of view.

That is what alliances are for. Plenty alliances in PC do it since they can no longer field full teams on their own. 3 Corps with 3 good squads = 1 PC team. Just be warned, it costs lots and lots of isk (50 mil for half to 1/4 of what they will have to defend with) and the first couple will be embarassing. Flipping a district is time consuming also. Mercing is what this game is all about so feel free to hire some of the top guns from TSO's. Just look up CEO's/Directors in game.
With the ADS nerf though, if you have gun game and good tactics, you actually have a chance now. No more ADS spam in PC for the win. |
