No. Just bloody no. Do you know how long it took me and EVERYONE ELSE to get on the level we are now? Months and months of grinding. If you are going to undermine all that with even MORE months of grinding, and make us do it on every single proto suit that we have tediously maxed out...
That's going to make a lot of heads roll, man. Maybe I should start saving SP for your little "idea." At least give us a HUGE WARNING AHEAD OF TIME so we can do exactly that... for god sake...
I shudder to think of the NPE when all the guys around 10 mil SP log on one day and see "nope, you're not done yet. You'll be full proto SoonTM" ...

I disagree with your assessment entirely.
More variety and options are good. And bluntly post 5 doesn't mean better. If it follows the tech 2 ideas from EVE it will be a refinement such as taking a scout and making it more scanny and less stealthy. Taking a sentinel and piling on more firepower while sacrificing tank.
Basically pigeonholed roles that make a niche the post 5 suff excels at while sacrificing versatility. |

First off, 'post level 5 content' is a good thing. Like Breakin said, it's probably reminiscent of the T2 ships from Eve Online. You trade versatility (slots) for raw power and dropsuit bonuses (more CPU/PG, "+5% per level" becomes "10% per level"). This will allow players to greatly specialize in playstyles they enjoy. I'm looking forward to some kind of variation in the assault roles, personally.
Second, you have to know that CCP will run kind of events before releasing content like this. Another MCC or maybe some kind of 'Kill X dropsuit, get Y SP' event.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it puts more SP into a roll that will get "balanced" thus leading to more QQ and more calls for respecs.
I'm not saying that I'm not for it, but it will certainly be something that will have to receive multiple passes to get right. I just hope that at each turn of balancing such a potentially powerful set of skills that they are willing to refund the SP in those areas while trying to get it right.

Definitely this. I'm opposed to seeing any sort of suits which are "better than proto" out there. But "more specialized than proto" is fair game for sure. The ability for people to tweak their suit more to match their preferred playstyle.

Can you explain how making something more specialized but not better than their proto suit would work?
Is this even possible?

I always considered the scout to be a t2 light suit because it has a more defined role.

Bang on. Specialised roles, tradeoffs, no "this X suit is blatantly better than your old Y suit".
That being said I am sure Rattati is only talking about small things to begin with. I doubt we will see entire line ups of new / pirate faction type / t2 type gear all of a sudden.
Let's not kid ourselves though, if CCP / Rattati can do something like this, it would be an amazing thing for the community and the game. We also have very eagle eyed CPM to make sure things are fair.

Thor, like a glass cannon heavy, which might have more damage dealing potential, at the expense of it's tank capabilities. Or a scout which emphasizes stealth (at the cost of speed) versus a scout which emphasizes speed (at the cost of stealth). Things like that. Where there's an advantage to the suit, and a distinct drawback as well.

Is this even possible? Take a Caldari scout dropsuit. Remove a high and sidearm slot. Give it a bonus to cloaking duration, keep the dampening bonus, then add a bonus similar to the Caldari logistic with nanohives. Maybe +5% to max nanites and +3% to supply/repair rate.
Call it a Covert Resupplier. On the forums we will call them "Nano Ninjas".
Not better than a proto Caldari scout. Just different, focused, with a specific goal in mind.

i would love to get something stronger than a proto suit. Raise it to level 5 i dont care. The assault suits have been slapped around since 1.6. Why get a glorified assault suit when i can be a scout with more speed, faster regen and have one more slot. |

Here is good start for making assaults better. Buff the movement speed. Or you can keep listening to your numbers instead of listening to a pro. |

Sometimes balancing requires nerfing AND buffing. I hate it when my weapon or dropsuit gets nerfed, but more often than not it is justified because it is overperforming.

Fine keep listening to numbers and see how far it gets you. By the way great job in the smg, i still rather use my basic smg with 21 damage. |

The challenge with buffing versus nerfing is how many things are involved. If we had two classes, you could always just buff the underperforming class.
But when you have thirty someodd possible playstyles, you may have a rough baseline equivalency, and then outliers above and below. If one is above the baseline, you either nerf that playstyle, or you have to buff every other playstyle. Which is more work, and more prone to creating more problems than it solves.
Nerfs suck. But they're also needed for everyone to have a better game. And buffing the other classes is really just nerfing you anyways. Comparatively.

No, buff the EWAR. Scouts have EWAR stats that will outperform medium frames WITHOUT ANY MODULES. That's ridiculous.

All i am asking is to give assaults a fighting chance "lol" or at least something that competes with scouts and heavies. Min Assault already moves at that speed.... hence why i am using a minmatar assault now days, its movement speed and stamina is perfect but its a balance due to minmatar's lower hp compared to other assault suits like gallente, ammar that can tank over 800 hp and still have damage mods. There are all kinds of mess surrounding the assault suits, another fail left over by the previous team that was working on dust in the beginning of uprising, slayer logis FTW. |

Everyone always ignores me when I say mediums need better EWAR.
Well consider this. A medium's default scans are equal to that of a heavy with one module of each stat. They actually have just as bad range as a heavy. That's ******* terrible right?
A default scout with no modules has as good EWAR as a medium that's STACKED TO THE GILLS WITH MODULES.
WHY do we need scouts to be twice as effective at scanning, so effective that they are on a whole different level that mediums can't even graze the surface of?
People's excuse defending the scout here tends to be "but they have no HP bro!" but what you don't seem to be GRASPING here is that Assaults are the MIDDLE GROUND between scout and heavy. They have a medium amount of HP, medium speed, medium amount of module slots... but have **** poor EWAR. Why shouldn't they be more evenly matched to Scouts?

We already have our suit specializations. They're called Assault, Commando, Logistics, Scout, and Sentinel.
Versatility should be the domain of the basic frames. We should pidgeonhole the specializations we have more than they are now, and then introduce new ones to fill in any gaps.

and if post 5 was just applied to dropsuit upgrades no need for respec qq
for example
after precision upgrades lvl 5 it would give me +2% precision -1% range.(vice versa for range upgrades)
after shield upgrades lvl 5 it would give me +2% shield -1%armor (vice versa for armor upgrades)
and if you needed to undo previous mistakes you just have to skill into the opposite but still retain a smaller bonus from that mistake for example if i upgraded shield to 8 i would be getting +6% shields -3% armor and because i didn't like it i brought armor to 8 i would get +6% armor -3% shield.
combine both shield and armor upgrades i made i would be getting +3%shield +3%armor for a heavy sp investment.

No. I'm almost at 40 mil and there's no way you should be anywhere near the stage where you actually have freedom to do anything your whim desires. I've got Amarr Sentinel maxed out, Gal Logi maxed out, everything in dropsuit upgrades EXCEPT biotics and I'm almost done with EWAR, and a proto Gal Scout. And only one proto light weapon (if the AR can even be considered one), one sidearm and two heavy weapons pretty much maxed, still working on the shotty.
I'd say I'll have more freedom to do any random skill around 43 million. That's like, by Spring or the end of Winter. And that's a generous estimate considering I'm exhausted with this game and need a break after this Sidearm event.
And sorry but no. Your idea is bad.
