I concur on the blaster turret on tanks being pretty bad. I can still get kills with it, but it's not striking fear in anyone's hearts, least of all me, because I know with dispersion as it is, luck is on my side, not the other way around.
I understand balance, but I can only suspend my belief so much when it comes with the balances. Realism-wise, a blaster turret should be as devastating as a current day .50 cal machine gun (in mind, it should be much more but I'm not the game designer).
Assault dropships in general are a bit more difficult to balance I imagine, considering it doesn't seem anyone really know what the role is, where here in the modern day, we have transport, support (more so covered by drones nows), and assault as far as helicopters go (figured that's the parallel the DS was taking ) If the ADS is supposed to be a gunship, then it's role is broken.
An ADS as a gunship should be only one pilot, or a pilot and a co-pilot (one to navigate, the other to shoot), and should have built in "swarm-esque" missiles specifically for vehicles and the small turret up to the fitting chosen by the owner (for either further Anti Vehicle power or infantry suppression). A good example of a modern day gunship being the AH-64 Apache has three different weapon systems available to it so that it performs it function exceedingly well against soft targets and hard targets.
If the ADS isn't meant to be a gunship, then we need to figure out what it is supposed to be, otherwise we're only wasting our time trying to balance it into it's role and we're also allowing the players decide for themselves what the role is supposed to be.
Considering modern combat, vehicles should also have counter-measure modules (with limited ammunition and short cool down timer) available for homing weaponry, ie flares or chaff. Heck, we have commercial aircraft equipped with flares to protect from Stinger missile attacks now a days. If this option was available, swarm missiles wouldn't be QQ'd about nearly as much.
Also, range is pretty ridiculous compared to modern day weaponry. With the LR being the longest range rifle, optimum being a little over 100m, in reality a 5.56mm round can travel over 350 meters with lethality (this is of course considering the opponent is unarmored). Now I understand your maps aren't really great for that range in consideration, but in Legion, I'm hoping we can resolve this by increasing standard map sizes and improve the ranges of all the rifles (everything else is pretty much in line with where it should be) to actually make the weapons seem to be improvements over past weaponry.
Also would be nice to eventually see aerial drone equipment for infantry, doesn't need to be an offensive component but rather a recon based unit that allows the infantryman to point out targets for other infantry or vehicles to target.
One day, maybe we can have both, realism and balance.
Considering all I have said, I still enjoy the game, but in the same turn, I haven't really had anything I run as of late being nerfed. |
