I have 9 or 10 proto suits, so I use numbers first. So for example if my Amarr Assault were my 1's it would look like this.
1.0^SAA^SCRAMBLER
1.1^PAA^VIZIAM
1.2^AAA^CRW04
So they list as SAA being Standard Amarr Assault, PAA being Proto Amarr Assault, and AAA being Advanced Amarr Assault. Now I may have more or less variations of this class. But then say for my Caldari Sentinel I would use 2.
2.0^SCH^HMG
2.1^PCH^BOUNDLESS^CORE
2.2^ACH^MH82^FLUX
So this is how I organize my closet, you may notice I use H for heavy rather than S for sentinel, thats because I also use S for Scout.......

I just go by what type of suit it is then what the main item is impotant to that suit.
So I would have the following:
Gal Scout LINK
Gal Scout LINK/SCAN
Cal Assault NANO
Dragonfly Sniper NANO
Dragonfly Sniper TAC/DMG
Or for vehicles:
Gunnlogi Mis AV 2 HARDS/Ext
Grimnes SCAN/CRU

My fitting code is a Letter for race (M-minmatar G-gallente A-amarr C-caldari)
i'll have a dash line and tiercide number (0-militia 1-standard 2-advanced 3-proto)
another code for the suit type (S-sentinel s-scout a-assault c-commando l-logistics)
than after is add a role or gear sometimes frontline or flank CBR-combat burst rifle or SL-swarm launcher
M-2C CBR MD (minmatar advanced commando Combat Rifle Mass Driver
M-3A Frontline(minmatar proto assault frontline suits are armor and damage oriented
M-2A Flanker (minmtar advanced assault flank suit have high hp regen, biotics and dampeners
M-1S B-HMG (minmtar standard sentinel with Burst-HMG)
I can go through my list and pick standard, adv, proto and any type of suit on the fly
with of course standard and cheap suits on top and more expensive towards bottom.
*I run full minmatar that is why you don't see any other race code*

I have fits made that all sit at the top and never get deleted then everything else under it and the way to keep it above your other fits is with spaces and quotations and symbols.

'Rep hives
'Forge
Then I leave the suit pretty much as is but delete some of it and use abbreviations for whats on it
Gk.o (re, sg, smg2damps, fast 40k $) works good this way since I have all scouts at proto, min assault and logi and amar heavy and commando

if there's multiple variations of the same loadout here's where the indicator goes (D = dam mods, R = stacked reps)
