So since the "Million Clone Challenge" i've been wasting my assets i've had since Close beta of DUST514 Majority of them were Assault Rifles of all variants, because i want to play my character racially so since i cant sell my assets i figured i just waste them in Public Matches earning me ISK to spend on Racial Items for my Amarrian Character...
But anyway after i was trying the Assault Rifle again after a year since i didn't use them for that long and mostly spent on using ScRs, ScPs & LRs, I started with 1 Duvolle AR i had in my inventory.
I may say that it's original variant of the ARs are better than other variants in the AR category, after that i lost that variant in 4 matches & i tried the Duvolle Tactical AR & it's pretty weak on both shields & armor for some reason & it's range is terrible, my ScR can out perform against this rifle & I'm using a Proto Variant of the Tactical, i won 2 matches with this gun by luck considering nearly had close calls with it & lost it in 3rd match
Next i tried the Burst & OMG this gun weaker that the Tactical, I've got 34 of these & i've been using them in every match & they suck so hard my K/D Ratio has gotten worst using this gun, not that I'm bothered about K/D but it shows how weak this gun is, i've tried it at range at 100m & a dude with a RR out performed me, then i tried it at Mid Range still sucked then i tried it in CQC and it still sucked soo much ass.
Next is the Breach & this gun is a-okay better that other variants, to be honest I'll rather use the Breach and the Original Variant of the AR, considering they are more effective than it's other variants, i know CCP would fix them but i remembered when the AR was king of the battlefield during Close Beta and Chromosome now it's a weak peasant.

Variants are supposed to be weaker then the primary, they all are of every rifle when compared to the original for most circumstances.
The AR as a "class" was only "King" in closed beta because it was literally the only LW designed for range that we actually had. The Caldari Medium Frame was also king, because it was the only medium frame (Logi started as another Heavy for those who care to remember, and still performs like one imo given how slow the stupid frame is even today), and certainly the only frame designed for combat in all situations.
Anything can be king when there is no competition.
I agree that the tac and Burst are lack-luster, but the primary AR is deadly when used in CQC, at least for me. I've killed many players using even just the base AR.

Rail rifles have dominated recently because of range. ScR I still king in my book, but the AR is pretty good. I recently specced into them to get rid of some of my Balac's. Duvolle's are nice. Not a big fan of most variants except the breach.

The AR original Variants are better Variants than the others & the Proto versions of the original are killer at CQC, I used the Duvolle Breach at range from 10m to 60m and it's an good gun it can do damage to any suit...

I got a Commando suit I use for fun. Its fitted with a RR and AR. When I get close, I switch to AR and it works pretty well for me in med to close range.
I love hearing the snare roll sound of the ARs.
But like he said, the AR ruled when there werent any other competition.
