Are range amplifiers worth it? Do you run one?
I have a scout gk.0 with all my Ewar skills at 5. My Ewar fit includes one complex precision, one complex range amp, and a complex dampener.
I would like opinions on whether I should ditch the range amp in favor of something else.
I play solo and only play in pubs (yes I know I am a scrub thank you very much).
I could put on a second complex kin cat, or an armor rep or a ferroscale in it's place.
My scan profile is 20.08 db so I feel a second dampener is overkill. I don't feel putting together a fit with 2 damps to counter 1% of the players I encounter in pubs is worth it. But more speed etc? More useful than the complex range amp?
I don't seem to notice the extended range out to 43.5m the range amp gives me but is that foolish to believe?
I have Ewar questions. Thoughts from other scout users?

For me it depends on the map, if its a 3 point city map I just run damp. If its a open map with 3 outside points I will use 1 complex range amp. Im min by the way. |

Second Complex Damp is a must, or at least have a fit with it.
With just one damp, an Amarr scout with max precision will scan you, as will Caldari with max precision.
Unless you are running a proto cloak, and even then, you will show up with cloak timer runs out.
If you are doing a lot of CQC and have a shotgun, I would thing the range amp would be of little benefit.
However, if you are fighting at range more often, maybe that range amp would be lots of help.
I find its best to just make fits for several different scenarios.

I have an Amarr scout ak.0 but I usually run advanced.
If at all. I'm really not liking it. More on that later.
At 20.08 db, be prepared to be scanned by my advanced or proto Scout suit. Amarr at 5 with EWAR at 5 can scan down to 17 db. Be prepared for another damp on your suit if need be.
On that same Amarr suit I run 2 complex range amps. They nerf the hell out of suit durability but give me something around the range of 60m. I definitely notice that since that's about half the radius of your minimap.
If you sprint, I will probably know your a scout and, because of my lack of gun game, will generally not engage you, but let my passive scans be relayed to them where they will probably tear you up.
Probably. (Hey, I've been wrong before.)
Range Amps won't do too much good unless you use 2 or 3. Or you can go all out and hit up all 4 slots, but by that time, there goes any survivability and EWAR damping you might want to do.
I would recommend making a suit with no damps (since your native dampening is pretty good as is), and making suits that counter (1 with 1 damp, 1 with 2 damps).
To give you an idea, I love my Min Logi suit. I have 8 fittings for it, all with different equipments and tank types as well as a special AV fit (proxy mine fit). If you love your Gal scout (something I'll be skilling into shortly), don't be afraid to make a variety of fits to suit your needs and goals.
EDIT: Spelling.

I have Ewar questions. Thoughts from other scout users? I haven't skilled all the way into it but I've got a fed gk.0 scout. My current shotty fit is 1 complex damage & 1 adv precision in highs and 2 adv damps & 2 adv range amps in the lows (17 / 0 is my best in this fit). It's not much but I like having the little extra range it provides and it has saved my @ss once or twice.
Note: Not a master scout, it's just something I do for the hell of it.

Two damps to make sure your un-scannable. Then a range amp, and a reactive plate. That's the lows taken care of. Two precision mods, or one precision and one damage mod for the highs. A BK42, a sidearm of choice and some flux grenades. Then a cloak with either a nanohive or some remotes.

I guess it depends on what scout you are. With being Gallente you can get really low on dampening but honestly most scouts don't run more than one precision enhancer. At least not that I've seen, I usually run two dampeners on my ck0 and am pretty much never seen. Hell I run one complex dampner on my assault ck0 and I rarely get seen.
Most scouts aren't real scouts and just tank their fits. Hell, even I've been doing it.... got a cheap advanced 30k fit that has around 600hp. 300 of it is shield that regens in about 10 seconds.
I wouldn't run more than one range enhancer. It's 45% of 16 which is like what 7.5 then the second probably nets what 30% after the stacking penalty? It's only a few meters added, fifteen feet isn't worth it to me, I'd just stick with being more dampened. |

Has anyone made/ or is there a chart showing side by side comparison of each scouts specs, and what module combinations it would take to counter other scouts abilities. I always question whether or not to stack certain modules because its needed or its overkill? I don't want to waste slots, but I do want to build a proper scout.
If not, I can see myself with a pen, paper, and calculator makin me a "what beats what sheet". I never had to do so much math for a video game.
Hmmmmm, maybe this would be an entertaining way to get my kid to do his math. |

range is pointless if your using cqc weapon such as sg or cr. thats why i got so fn mad when they changed my cal scout bonus because i generally run shotty or knifer fit.
you need 3 complex dampners to get past me on tacnet, but considering i'm one of the pure ewar scouts left i would recommend 2 dampners and two kincats/ferroscale.
but i'm fine with you remaining mix and match, easy prey
"yeah i fought the redline it took it only 13 seconds....."
