I am toying around with a heavy alt, and I find it very expensive so far. At 2.5-2.6M SP, I have HMG to 5, Prof to 2, and Sentinel to 3. (also some garbage) My fits go like this

 Main (b/c "cheap")

 Sentinel A-1/Series

 MLR-A Burst HMG
 M152-A Submachine Gun
 Enhanced Armor x2
 One Enhanced Reactive Plate
 Flux or Locus
 Shield Ext.

When I get mad fit (aka do it once and you go under)

 Sentinel A-1/Series

 Boundless HMG
 M152-A Submachine Gun
 Enhanced Armor x2
 One Enhanced Reactive Plate
 Flux or Locus
 Shield Ext.

So yeah. I keep these at a level of 10 stock. Though I should do 5, to say when I go negative. Before, I made profit with the MLR-A but no Lvl.3 suit. What do to make it better and cheaper?

Drop the Shield Extender for a Heavy Damage Modifier. I don't know if your weapon upgrades are but if you have them upgraded, stick the best one to shred your enemies faster. Reasons against shield extending is that you only gain 20 or 80 shields for that extender (depending on your skills and after bonuses). That will allow you to tank a couple extra shots from a Rail Rifle or Assault Rifle, a Scrambler Rifle will still tear through your shields and that won't help you against Shotguns and R/Es. Damage mod it for better efficiency.

For cheap fits, if you want dirt cheap, go basic stuff.

 Sentinel A-1

Heavy Machine Gun (for dirt poor) or MH-82 (for reasonable price range)
 * yes, this isn't the burst, but with some skill you'll find they work well too. (also depending on how fast Delta drops, you're going to get a big surprise to the incoming nerf to Burst HMGs)
 Submachine Gun
 Enhanced Armor x2
Enhanced Armor Repair or Enhanced Reactive Plate
 * I would also recommend Armor Repairs instead of Reactives if you can because you don't get a huge boost to armor and the armor repair on reactives is pretty weak. I save Reactives for fits where I want both Armor and some Repair and I only have one slot. But again, I prefer regenerative fits most of the time so whatever suits your playstyle the best.
 Flux or Locus
 Basic Heavy Damage Mod

This fit is dirt cheap and can probably be made even cheaper by swapping out Basic Modules for Militia Modules (only difference between them is CPU/PG requirements. Otherwise Basic and Militia modules are the same).

In any case, welcome to the next step of "balancing your battle efficiency and your wallet".

The fit I use when trying to make ISK is:
 Standard Amarr Sentinel Suit
 3 Militia Armor Repairs
 Standard HMG
 Militia SMG
 Flux Grenade

Of course if you run with Logi you can put some plate on there.
