I am having immense troubles setting up my mouse to run Dust.
What I want is a consistent aiming experience.
When I move my mouse 20cm I want it to equate turning 360-¦ in-game. (Regardless of how quickly I move the mouse, i.e. no acceleration.)
I am running into the following problems:
* Uneven, unsmooth, jerky, and laggy feel. (The mouse works perfectly on computers running Windows, MacOSX, Various Linux distributions.) * The mouse smoothing option creates a huge input delay which makes it a "non-option". * Inconsistent aiming depending on map, Gal Lab especially. (FPS problems?) * Inconsistent aiming between different weapons. * Inconsistent aiming between different weapons and weapon variants while using Aim-Down-Sight. * Pixel skipping, more noticeable with weapons that have more "zoom".
I am currently running these settings: PS3: unchanged (default) Dust: unchanged (default, 60 / 60 I think) Mouse DPI: 270 // 360 GÇö (Available range: 90 through 5700) Mouse Polling Rate: 125Hz GÇö (Available range: 125Hz through 1000Hz)
Any and all help and / or suggestions are welcomed bar suggestions related to using a GIMX / Eagle Eye / XIM / etc. |

Didn't really...
Have anyone had success with Dust while running the polling rate at 1000Hz? Something is definitely odd as the mouse movements seem "better" at the lowest polling setting... |

I am playing with the mouse plugged directly into the PS3. (I do not have an Eagle Eye or XIM.)
I left the in-game sensitivity settings at default because lower in-game sensitivity settings comes with a lot of negative acceleration. High in-game settings makes it impossible to do "fine aiming".
High mouse polling rate seems to make the in-game movements uneven, unsmooth, jerky, and jittery. (When on a computer it allows for A LOT better aiming.)
Low mouse polling rate seems to be better for Dust.
Which only leaves DPI as the setting to influence how much 20cm of mouse movement is translated to in-game degrees turn.
...
This still leaves a lot to be wanted.
Most notably is that there is a huge minimum turn, very noticeable when (trying) to use a sniper rifle. Regardless of PS3 settings, Dust sensitivity settings, Mouse polling rate, and Mouse DPI there simply is no way of getting rid of pixel skipping.
Even at the least sensitive settings the minimum turn (aim) movement you can do in-game is a huge skip, making it entirely luck based to use a sniper rifle at ~350+m.
The reason being that there are angles that you simply cannot aim at, which leaves you with the option of trying to hit enemies when they pass over your crosshair or strafing a bit to see if the game will now allow you to aim where you want to.
If you have ever played an old game which only allowed these movements \ | / - . - / | \ then you know the feeling that the game simply will not allow you aim where you want to. |

I tried it out but it really didn't fit me, I'm switching back to: DPI: ~300 / ~500 Polling rate: 125Hz In-game sensitivity: 60 In-game ADS sensitivity: 60 |

-+-P What kind of gun do you use? Close range?
I do run at lower DPI than you do so the hipfire comes out similar while my ADS is slightly quicker. I use 60 / 60 because it "feels" more like using a mouse on the computer. With lower in-game settings I get negative acceleration when doing quick mouse movements which is something I thoroughly dislike.
These days I mostly run with the RR, CR, NKs, and the aSMG. I hardly ever use Shotguns or Sniper Rifles any more because they simply do not work well with Dusts mouse support. I do have ARs specced as well but between HMGs, CRs and RRs they just feel like a poor choice. I will try out the TAR again once hotfix Delta comes along. |

Without mouse acceleration, the movement of the mouse and the movement of the crosshair will be 1 : 1.
With mouse acceleration, the movement is based on speed. Meaning, if you move the mouse 1 inch, slowly, it'll move one distance. If you move it still 1 inch, but fast, it'll move a lot farther.
Meaning, every time you move your mouse to aim, you'll have to move it differently to do the same movement, making it hard to aim.
==================
I right understand the term "acceleration" in the context of your post?
Yupp that is it.
Though I guess the term "negative-acceleration" isn't entirely accurate in this case, but anyhow this is how it goes for me.
In Dust with low in-game sensitivity a slow mouse movement turns you more than a quick mouse movement of the same distance. I use the in-game sensitvity of 60 / 60 because it "feels" like there is less of that going on than with lower sensitivity settings. |

EDIT: OK I read up on it but how do you change polling rate on PS3? Sadly we can't.
zzZaXxx wrote:Oh you have to be using one of those devices? XIM or Eagle Eye? We do not have to, I certainly am not using either of them, nor a GIMX for that matter.
As I hardly think my set up is even decent I wouldn't advise against it though... since the Eagle Eye and XIM emulate a controller you get to play with "aim assistance" turned on, plus you can probably set turbo buttons as well, it still won't feel like you are playing with a mouse though. |

I would really like it if:
Scroll up = Switch to Primary Scroll down = Switch to Secondary
It would make playing this game a lot smoother. |

Even if all mice do not have extra side buttons you could still assign commands to them so that people with that have a mouse with side buttons can make use of them.
Throw grenade on a mouse button would be just swell. |

Throw grenade on a mouse button would be just swell. That would actually solve my biggest problem. I've got side buttons that I could use for grenades. CCP any chance we can remap a few keybinds please?
For me too!
Maybe we can have multiple bindings per command? |

If you could look at why a low polling rate works "better" than a high one for Dust that would be just swell. |

While it is true that mouse works better in Dust with a low polling rate the PS3 USB driver accepts polling rates up to 1000Hz, and the PS3 controllers register as such. (They only actually send data at 100Hz though, which is really weird.) |

Screw it, don't fix mouse support just slap some "aim assist" on it and be done with it. At least then you'll save your players the expense of buying an Eagle Eye or XIM.

Just a quick update since most of the discussion has been posted in other threads.
Many CPM members are being extremely helpful in regard to trying to improve mouse support in Dust. While an improvement might not happen right away (or at all), at least now the CPM is engaging CCP about mouse support in Dust.
Btw this is not to deter anyone from providing more feedback, quite the opposite as you now know that it is being looked into! Being concise and focused in your feedback seems to help if you actually want anyone else to bare reading through it!
(Shout out to IWS for taking the time to further look into this! [:d])
