You should have seen how bad knives were back in the early days.

Hit detection was crappy on an epic level, you always had to be within kissing distance to actually hit anyone, no cloaks existed, OHK-ing Proto heavies was a mission on its own, there was no suit available that gave bonuses to nova knife damage (Gallente Scout was the only scout suit at the time) at all, fog rendering problems made it virtually impossible to hide as a scout especially when cloaks didn't exist and the problem was only compounded by the existence of "Witch Mountain" when snipers dominated back in the days. In other words, it was hard mode for knifers on an epic level. If you were knifer back then and still are now, then you are a god among insects with the changes knives experienced recently because you've been through hell and back being baptized by the flames of trial and error.

It does takes a lot of patience and planning. Last week I decided to make a M-1 minmatar scout with the only weapon I used was the nova knife. I did put a kinkat, and profile dampenner and 2 enhancers to be able to detect people. That was a fun adventure. Not a high kill count but, fun which is what really count. My most memorable moment was this gallente heavy. I sneacked up to him and knife him but, I didn't killed him because he dropped down to the level below. He started turning left and right looking for me. but, he couldn't find me. So, he started walking away and I followed him. Every now and then he would turnaround cause he knew I was close by but, he just couldn't see me. This cat and mouse game went on for about 5 minutes. Towards the end the guy decided it was safer to go out of the city so again I followed him. I turned on the cloak and ran towards him when all of a sudden he decided to stop and turn around one more time. I froze in place and prayed he didn't see me. He stared in my direction for what seem like forever and then he decided it was safe. Bad move on his part. I closed in and slash slash, another notch on my belt.

I had standard knives on a fit because it was my uplink fit. No Depot was around, so I was stuck with it, and I went to hack an objective guarded by a heavy. I snuck up on him and charge swiped him in the back, and spun around him blades flying as he spun maddly spraying bullets everywhere but my direction. But the time he finally was able to kill me, I had widdled him down to 100 hp. So close!! I can only imagine the shame he would have felt had I been able to pull it off. So very close! I had the beginnings of a Minja build when I first made this account when Uprising hit, but considering I never was able to kill anything, gave up in less than one battle, and went back to tuning my then-Under Powered HMG.... Well, I hardly count that as my first time nova knifing. (Oh, the missed opportunity for innuendo...) But still, I had only cursory knowledge of the plight of Nova Knifers "back in the day." It was too frustrating trying to be a heavy early/mid uprising, why add to my punishment by truly giving nova knifing a go? Backed well off until today. Thankfully, the joys of Nova Knifing has opened up for plebeians like me I am a minotaur.

It has low hp as i chose prec mods and regen with speed, it has one shield extender only but damn its good. Well that was spiffing!.

I've been knifing since Uprising : ^ ) specced into it as soon as I saw the minja's bonus. It was love at first sight. But yeah, I know the pain of running knives without a cloak, pre-buffs. I used to run them without another weapon back then too, JUST using knives. And to compound the problem, most people back then were decked out in all proto because everyone got refunded a bunch of ISK when Uprising hit. Those were dark times. Stabby-stabber extraordinaire
