You should have seen how bad knives were back in the early days.
Hit detection was crappy on an epic level, you always had to be within kissing distance to actually hit anyone, no cloaks existed, OHK-ing Proto heavies was a mission on its own, there was no suit available that gave bonuses to nova knife damage (Gallente Scout was the only scout suit at the time) at all, fog rendering problems made it virtually impossible to hide as a scout especially when cloaks didn't exist and the problem was only compounded by the existence of "Witch Mountain" when snipers dominated back in the days. In other words, it was hard mode for knifers on an epic level. If you were knifer back then and still are now, then you are a god among insects with the changes knives experienced recently because you've been through hell and back being baptized by the flames of trial and error.
