I am coming to the realisation that dusts content does not warrant new players getting farmed and grinding.
Sure we love the game and some of the newer players had to get their arse handed to them but the real question is, 'is dust worth grinding and getting killed a lot for?'
I love dust but if i was a new player, I'd actually find it an insult that I'd be expected to grind and get killed a lot for what the game has to offer. Please imagine being a new player who knows nothing, nothing about lore, nothing about corps, people, etc, etc.
-3 game modes which are hugely imbalanced with a lack of matchmaking (soon to be fixed hopefully).
-1 game mode (PC) where you have to grind for AGES just to fight people who are so experienced that you'd have no chance and all your efforts would be gone in a heartbeat. In fact, this game mode is literally owned by some of the higher corps pretty much, the monopoly is still happening, just in a different way.
-1 game mode where you fight for either of the 4 empires and you are able to unlock items earlier and cheaper but again, nothing special here, just skirmish with a chance of trolling. Oh, and you may not even realise the LP store exists for some time.
I think it's time to drop the whole 'we got farmed therefore so should you' rubbish, this isn't jail or the ghetto, no they shouldn't. We also need to look at the marketing, some places say 24v24 and insinuate that the game is going places and stuff when it isn't.
I know that players can grind for everything and for isk for their corp for PC but seriously, you think that's any kind of valid excuse?, no it's not and I'd find it a damn insult if you honestly expected me (If i was a new player) to simply deal with it and grind, that is just simply not fun.
A simple fix is to just start making things more fun and to do that, increase isk and sp payouts across the board. Lower isk costs for PC dramatically so its open to more people and they don't have to grind for months just for a few games that are barely even enough to learn anything. Lower level sp costs across the board, maybe lowering skill multipliers etc, etc.
I used to agree that players should earn their suits, weapons etc, etc but that was back when dust had major potential. Back when PC had potential because dust had potential. Luckily i was in beta so no one had any proto or anything when i played so i didn't have to get stomped for my stuff but it is time to get real.
I'm not trying to cheapen the game and efforts of the devs but the game itself is getting cheapened and ruined by this clique ish type mentality toward the NPE and how it should be because of how it was when the game had MAJOR POTENTIAL.
You seriously have to look at how much isk and sp things cost and ask yourself, is that worth it and for what?. I think if the game isn't changed for more fun and easier access for newbs then we will just generally have a stagnant player base that will eventually dwindle a lot quicker than you might think.
Grinding is a very draconian mechanic, please lower it.
INB4destiny - I have uploaded a video of me breaking the game immediately after buying it in a shop to some buddies just so they stfu about it. They have all quit is as well lol.
That was spiffing.

I am personally fine with the game but it obviously needs to change rather dramatically.

Looking back from where I am now to when I first started, I'm reminded how tough it is on new players. I mean if this game survives into a subscription type game who would pay to beaten into oblivion for months until you build up some skills?
I think a lot of really good players forget that the skills they have at this game are not common and are constantly complaining about how bad "blueberry's" suck. I seriously doubt this game could have a future with only the 10% of a very small community to support it. There needs to be something to more to retain the blueberry and make it so they have some achievable goals.
The only way I can see that this game has some sort of future is if there is more content or improved matchmaking.
A) I hope you know about Legion. That is the only future "Dust" really has long term. B) I think you hit the nail on the head with Matchmaking. Hopefully when they get that nailed down, that will really be a key in keeping new players interested.
The matchmaking will help but it's a given for the most part nowadays. It's not going to have new players going "wow matchmaking, totally worth the grind!".
It will help but it doesn't stop the time invested VS content and time investment to get there part.
Look at all the new games/games available on console that are coming, dust needs fun and needs to be more newb friendly.
I'm not on about our fun. Granted we love the game but stuff like matchmaking may seem great in dust but it's standard anywhere else.
