If you and someone else are fighting in close quarters, then you both are at low health, hide, charge the IP, then lol 1 hit him. The range seriously sucks though. It needs to do like 90 damage per shot to actually be competitive.

Step 2: Repeat
Aside from being the proper way to use it, this is also the most efficient way. |

As someone who has all Ion Pistol Skills to 5 (besides Optimization) I can confirm this as true.

Or... You know... just switch to an SMG and finish him off that way?
It deals more damage in the time that you wait to charge your pistol, and doesn't have the risk of locking up on you.
And it works well on its own, it can actually kill stuff with full health!

Here are some steps for correct use.
1. Open the menu.
2. Go to the fitting screen.
3. Select your fitting.
4. Select your sidearm slot.
5. Change out the ion pistol for an SMG or SCP.

The ion pistol overheats. Even in semi-auto, without charging it.
The ion pistol has TAR levels of hipfire dispersion.
The scrambler pistol has a massive headshot multiplier that makes it the highest DPS weapon in the game if you can consistently land headshots with it.
The ion pistol has less shots per clip than the SCP.
The ion pistol has half the range of the SCP.
One wonders why anyone would use an ion pistol over a scrambler pistol, ever.

Charge...pop out of cover...Shoot...pop back into cover...repeat. Line up the headshot when the red dot comes around the corner from your cover. Or run around your target like crazy when you have no cover.

Charging it means that you are spending time doing just that instead of firing, giving a window of opportunity to the opponent. If you miss, you'll give an even larger window.
I assume the charge was given to make the weapon seem cool and attractive, but wasn't well thought out. |

I have never understood why certain weapons have their own rule set in this game. Why does the SCP arbitrarily have a huge head shot damage modifier?
I wish there was a lot more consistency throughout the weapon profiles and damage % / damage modifiers.
Not only that I wish we actually had resist mods so all of this mattered more.

They need to buff the Ion Pistol.
If you get killed with it, you get kicked from the match.
After getting kicked from the match, you receive a notification every 10 seconds that says "lolscrub". Or something.

seriously everyone needs to stop crying because they cant use a weapon effectively I'm newish to dust and I still get plenty of kills with it the only bad thing I really see would be the range cut off its very limited but as it stands its very effective if you can use it right, which isn't that hard considering I have taken down proto heavies with it on multiple occasions |
