The reason being that, post Delta, the non-assault variant will be very much a mid-to-mid-long range TAC rifle, what with the proposed changes to ROF and hip fire dispersion. Changes, I hasten to add, I thoroughly agree with. It's just that I like to run as much Amarr tech as possible on my suits to get the most out of the racial bonuses and I don't want to have to fork out and then struggle to fit the advanced tier assault variants just to stay relatively competitive in CQC situations. It's also a tremendously fun weapon to use. After spending so much time and concentration on lining up charged head shots spray n pray lazor beamz can be a nice change of pace.
I can't see why they shouldn't be on the standard tier, but would be interested to hear others' thoughts on the matter.
Thanks.

True, but he precedent has already been set within other weapon types, most notably the AR. The key thing to remember is that the ascr is not inherently more powerful than its TAC cousin, indeed, on paper, it has lower DPS and suffers from burning through ammo quite rapidly. It just offers another style of play to the laser enthusiast.

The balancing factor to that problem is that people who drop two points I to the operational skill and then spray the assault with complete abandon will be quickly be scouring the market for heat resistant hands.

Dispersion feels fine to me; if anything, it's the muzzle flash that puts me off of my aim. Less of that would be welcome. And the damage profile is offset by a decent damage per shot and the highest base ammo count of all the AR-types (I think).
Which is not to say I think it's amazing; it's already been recently revealed to be the poorest-performing weapon variant, which is why it might be receiving a minor buff in Delta. Whatever they do, I still would like them to open out the range of weapon types that us laser lovers have access to.

AcR is getting nerfed by all accounts, so perhaps it won't be such an issue.

Perhaps? But breach variants are available at 2 and the scram assault pistol is also available at 2 or 3 (I forget), so really I can see no inherent reason as to why weapon variants can't be opened up to newer players.
For me, I want to see a choice to invest in a weapon type to offer plenty of opportunities for different styles of play, so that new players won't necessarily have to spec into CR if they want to CQC effectively when really they enjoy the feel of rail tech the most. I want all weapon types to offer an assault, a breach, a tac and a burst, and from there we balance which type is naturally strongest at each of those play styles.
