Cloaks are too hard to fit for beginner scouts (and too easy for proto vets).
When starting out It takes a lot of SP to make a viable cloak fit that is effective, the main problem being that until you have lvl 5 skill in scout suits fitting a cloak takes too much CPU/PG without making a totally gimped fit.
The other problem is that even with a cloak fitted you need some EWAR skills and modules to actually make it effective.
I think this is off-putting to new scouts.
the other issue is that due to the necessity of high CPU/PG for cloaking scout suits have been buffed too much in these stats.
cloaks for other classes are pointless. OK you CAN fit it to a logi, maybe even a commando or assault but the result is a gimped joke fit. EG cloaked logis fully visible with a red map dot and chevron.
so, I would suggest cloaks being built in to all scout suits, basic gets a basic cloak, adv gets adv, pro/pro.
scout CPU/PG can then be adjusted to a level to make suitable fittings possible.
the cloak skill could be ither removed & refunded to changed to a duration/cooldown/profile buff.

Around the release time of cloaks I suggested something similar.. In my post I put forward an idea for a Scout Variant to use for cloaking
Some will argue the 'Scout' is the suit to be used for Cloaking (it is because CCP made it that way) The suit should have been altered before just adding a Cloak and fitting buffs....
- 1 EQ slot, reasonable fitting space, maybe worse EWAR stats. = a combat Scout
- 2 EQ slots (one has manditory cloak) reduced fitting (to force the use of EWAR) = a cloaked Scout
Bla bla bla.. custimization etc... NO.. The suit should not be able to have both Giving players the freedom to play how they choose is half the reason balance is wrecked.
Innapropriate Irrelevence...
Welcome to the Dust Forum, hang around to see why everyone else left :/

I'm sorry, both of you. I can't endorse what you're suggesting. Don't mistake me, your IDEAS are good and legit, and I give you both the benefit of doubt that you would be RESPONSIBLE users of the device as a tactical tool.
But "Cloak" for MANY fps players just means "invisibility power". I am one of the folks who argued auietly against having it in the game, because I thought 90% of the users would only be making it an exploiter's tool to turn the game into run-around-n-killstreak-with-cloaks (and forget about helping, defending, hacking objectives).
The two of you might use it for deep-insertion hacking (a true Scout's specialty), Assault players will use it as a flanking-tool, DS players like me might consider it as an escape-ne-evsion tool when they're shot down. But if cloaks were a standard or default item, I bet we'd collectively make up a minority of members using the cloak in these non-corrosive ways. The rest of the folks would use cloaks like a disease across the game.
CCP tried to introduce it as sensitively as they could, making it an EQUIPMENT piece (all equipment has to be pulled out, activated, must be held in hand, thus limited and costly to carry). Forcing players to have to unload more than half their fit to make room to carry one, and then have to skill high before they can use the more combat-freindly cloaks is the way they came up with, to MINIMIZE the players who call themselves "scouts", but just want to exploit the scheme of "stay invisible---kill somebody---then go invisible again---giggle, giggle".
So far, CCP's way of offering cloaks seems to have made the game comfortable enough that I'm not cursing cloakers. I would be terrified if they tried to mess around with what they've been able to accomplish.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

I wouldn't say make cloaks scout-only, but I'd be fine with increasing the CPU/PG penalties/bonuses for non-scouts/scouts respectively. |

Seriously though, no.
Logistics and Commandos and even Assaults (yes, I've seen one) with cloaks aren't dampened enough by the cloak to have tacnet invisibility. They're just idiots running around with a red chevron above their head. It's an annoying thing that makes headshots a little harder, but they're not fooling anybody. Let them gimp their fits with the cloak (except logistics with their equipment fitting bonus - that shouldn't apply to the cloak imo, but CCP probably can't fix that).
I do not want to be forced to use the cloak on my scout. I have very situational niche fits that use it - I don't use these fits very often. I prefer to run with my RE and compact or RE and uplink. Do not want to have to give up either of those because they're very important to my approach to scouting. Cloak would get me killed.

Scouts are still hilariously OP, requiring a cloak to be fitted is essentially reducing the number of equipment slots to 1. It has nothing to do with cloaks on other suits.
Making the cloak fitting bonus 75% reduction regardless of skill level would be a good choice to.
Changing the STD and ADV cloaks CPU and PG to be closer to the PRO (and increasing the PROs requirements as well) one would similarly be a good choice.
(Essentially reducing the equipments slots to 1 and reducing the CPU & PG available on scout suits.)
Having to manually decloak before switching to a weapon (or meleeing) should also be a thing, coupled with a longer decloak animation.

Nanite skilll level 2, compact nanohive, only has 25 nanite clusters (compare to 36 clusters in standard hive) which means that it is much less ammo and much less armor repair potential. But it's a very tiny dome of effect compared to the other nanohives. Place it well and it'll be there for you because nobody will see it from 100m away and go take it out.

It would make no sense for the cloak to be a squad only usage just like if i.said rep tools should only be able to be used while in squad because who is gonna use a rep tool while soloing? if you or they (cloakers) can't ck yourself then ccp needs to. either you want more competition and better gaming or you want to continue with the bs game play (cloakers camping out for strays near mcc, ppl camping out on links with re, ppl camping with lav to run others over the whole match...etc). everyone that is complaining about how the game is being played don't understand what the problem is, the key word is camping. in such an intense game no one should be able to camp anywhere (hell snipers have a time limit b4 someone moves them). but they can and y, because the competition is low, the balance is low, retention is low. prime example, i'm in my 2nd month, just learn to join a squad doing a battle. what shocked me is the number of ppl that continue 2 run alone when we are able to do this. this is a squad base game isnt it? most of the time i see 2 squads with 1 or 2 ppl and the rest free balling. that means we are mins away from being pushed back to the mcc. that means you vets will be sitting at our gate (redline for you suspects) waiting for us to come out and play (not knowing that half has left the game and the other half died to much not to get those sp in the end). as nice as this game is, its fast tracked to be more about trickery instead of skill all because of skills and that will be the death of it. ur rep tool ref is apples and oranges. |
