player counts are per 15 minutes, so if you log out you don't show up in the next cycle.

Technology actually, science would be studying peoples or populations behaviors. Citing the technical would be helpful (for me) because it's pretty common for companies to be less than honest. Still likely two false positives for today.
False Positive
API error experienced back before launch where it accidentally counted 9,000+ players at a low time.
True Positive
API read that has been consistent for months with very little deviation in expected patterns with little rhyme or reason.

Rusty Shallows wrote:The Player count is used to make a claim of game health. When x number of people are not actually playing the game those are False Potitives (Type I errors). The daily cap creates statically bias which leads to false claims. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_I_and_type_II_errors
Then don't try to sell a phase without complete context for that itself was a 'false positive'.

Touch+¬ How about a deal? Refrain from using obviously false numbers and I won't get all uppity about misused statistics.
I would use actual numbers but they're NDA'ed. :( They're pretty good looking despite that including the numbers breakdowns. Dust 'offline' is so that the closest thing to a publically measurable numbers.

The unfortunate takeaway is there is no way to prove anything. Which makes my inner-statistician a sad camper.
It makes me as a gamer mad too. They're numbers you can be proud of.
