It was (is) a free game. Because DUST had a 10 year plan that was implied it would be on console, did you never hear of "Laser Focused on PS3"?
The point is, had I known DUST would be dead in a year and a half I would not have bought AUR, ever. |

Sounds naive to believe that. 10 year plan on a console that was ~6/7 years through its own 10 year lifecycle. Never.

It was (is) a free game. It might have been free but there were a lot of players spending money on the game. Myself i am glad i only ever spent 30$. |

Dust 514 served it's purpose: enough data and feedback has been gathered to develop Legion for PC (the superior platform). So really, Dust 514 was a huge success.

I said it was implied it would be on console, meaning PS3 and PS4. Now CCP has basically said, "Yeah, we can't make DUST better because of the limits of the PS3, #PCMasterRace." Even though we all know CCP is bs when they say DUST is limited by PS3... I mean just look at games like AC4, FC3, Skyrim, and Destiny and tell me CCP did all they could for DUST on PS3. |

But why would they devote time learning how to code in PS3's weird architecture when they could just move to PC and have a much easier time of it?
Not to mention, if they move off of PlayStation then CCP does not have to involve Sony in their game.
Also, PS3 Skyrim has x5 the bugs and issues that PC Skyrim does. Source: I have played both extensively.

Also keep in mind that not only did they decide to develope dust on a ps3 when the ps4 was being marketed, they are now repeating past mistakes.
Meaning, legion is being developed in UE3 rather than UE4. They keep defaulting to older development platforms and tools.
Softimage is being canceled as of 2015. I am now converting all my knowledge to Maya. Even though Maya doesn't have half the tools Softimage has, it is nessecary to go with the more common platform. This means I will no longer have access to VFX, compositing and other tools in one package.
This is very similar to what CCP is doing. They are staying with what is comfortable to them rather than learning to evolve with the industry they are directly attached to. I feel their pain, but it's growing pain which will only make them stronger. However they are not using the current standard, and are staying with UE3 ( in my case Softimage ).
They have obviously reevaluated their whole company. They will be simply shifting focus to EVE and Valkerie, dropping all other projects. This results in Dust, WoD and Legion all being either canceled or put on hiatus. They made the mistake of too many projects and are limiting it to 2 while they get back on track.

I completely agree with you, I think it is BS to play the technical argument that the PS3 is limiting. Destiny on PS3 looks great for example.

Other games developers have done amazing things with "PS3's weird architecture". It's really not a valid point. I agree that cutting Sony out of the loop has a big part to do with moving to the PC. As well as CCP's technical confidence developing on PC.

Hmmm... "a huge success" based upon data and feedback for a project that hasn't even been officially greenlit as far as I know. Please correct me if the Legion Beta is currently in progress. You are an eternal optimist.

Legion being greenlit is still an issue. Hopefully we will get confirmation soon. Until then CCP gets an open beta to test Legion in that also happens to generate income for them.
