I wouldn't bother nowadays, it's all been modded to hell and barely resembles the hardcore fast paced fighting it used to be.

Even if Defiance is a bad game for open world(i always get bores of those) it has a better PvP lobby shooter.
The golden rule for all games these years and future years is expect that they will be Uber crap, then choose the less crapier and it will be satisfied to see that it wasn't so super crap as one though(it always work).
They are very different games.
Shall i compare planetside 2 which is a game i play as well?.

Their PvP system is not really different, it has capture points with team vs team up to 64vs64 and you can get paid, of course as Dust came from the EvE universe need this if you lose you buy it again, but taking that feature out it becomes another lobby shooter oh yes i forgot you can deploy tanks. The ttk is very quick compared to dust as well and requires much more skill in some respect. shall i compare destiny to wow or warfram?, perhaps halo?. Also, you know absolutely nothing about planetside 2 at all, where di you get all that from because it's simply not true at all.
The battles are between hundreds at a time on a server that can hold 2000 players at once, it is combined arms warfare on a massive scale, there is no in game currency but you level up stuff with cert points. The vehicles are spawned at bases and cost resources which accumulate over time so they can't be spammed.
you can compare games all you want, just because something is an fps does not make it very much like another fps and most games offer something unique, something which destiny does not do at all but it has nice graphics.
