Hi guys,
I stopped playing Dust after I had bought a Playstation 3 just to play the game when Project Legion was unveiled. It hit me hard and since I got a beta invite for HEX: Shards of Fate and am a total fan of TCGs .... those two things combined let me quit dust.
I heard only a few things after wards .... patches now have another name, and the CCP guys said they wouldn't really add anything totally new .... but the forums talk of things like balance changes that sound pretty big (number of grenades, AV -> vehicles seem to have gotten more balanced .... etc.) But that is all I heard.
Could anyone sum up what changed in the game since Legion was announced and how they feel about it? Is the game more balanced now and even more fun to play or is everything stalled and you need a big fetish to log in because a lot of things suck?
Thanks in Advance

How did they change tanks / AV? When Legion was announced I felt that tanks were a bit overpowered .. how did they change grenades and AV in general? It sounded like swarms are stronger now etc? |

Welcome back to the western town of Dodge, Frank! Summed as best as possible, many of us players who expected Dust would be dead and a ghost town by now, were wrong. The Project Legion announcement and the fallout across the forums SEEMS to have pushed a lot of the seasoned players away from playing this game anymore... but the space they left seems to be filled by a whole stream of (literally) new Newberrys.
Many of us advanced players who struggled with the Uprising changes, LIKE the "Hotfix" changes, and wish changes were made like this before. We're not sure if it's the 'method' by which the changes are made, or the new staff assigned to the Hotfix process, but each change seems to have less to criticize and more to approve of than the Uprising Patch process.
We are still no closer to bonding with EVE-Online (PC matches are hardly discussed or raved about anymore). But WITHIN Dust, there are some good changes that are encouraging folks to get OUT of Public Matches, and get INTO FW combat more (which is the way the migration should be for dedicated seasoned players).
But no, there is no perfect balance yet. HAVs are still too manuverable for CCP's liking, and the next "hotfix" may be the cure for that speedy-tanks problem.
There isn't likely to be any new maps or fight types added, BUT don't totally believe the claims about no new items. "New" items, maybe not---but never before available militia versions of items, new fitting variants of vehicles, and the re-issuing of suits and logi vehicles that were removed from the game long ago are being arranged by the devs.
There are still one or two weapons that are still exploitable into OP level--but overall, guns are becoming more agreeable and comfortable at last. If you're alert, and you know what you're doing, the current version (called "Hotfix Charlie") is about the most satisfying version of the game so far. It's just ironic that the game is starting to look like it can be improved.... now, when it seems as though it no longer has it's promised future.
Dodge City is still Dodge City. I'm liking it.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

It continues to improve, but still has some imbalance (bHMG, modded controller ScR, and shooting before uncloaking). Work continues.
That said, the game is as good as it's ever been. IMO -- a greater amount of suit diversity than ever before, PC fights to be had for anyone who wants them, and a development team focused on balance. |

Im having the most fun since I started (around Mordus also).
Even tho they nerfed my heavy and buffed cloaked shotgun... I still find myself smiling mid game Some of the time ;)
The bizarre part is alot of vets left.... and the game seems to be more of what they really wanted.
I cant quit this game yet...no matter how hard I try. I even pre-ordered Destiny. But I want to play both! I'll see. There are things about dust that are better than destiny... Or any other game ever made. Some of which is only imagination...
Come back and see.... I'd squad with you. Meh maybe you'd hate it. Thats just my opinion Bro. |

The three hotfixes have been linked before, so I won't comment on that.
Regarding the state of the game: Pretty much the best it's ever been.
There is always room for criticism, but the game is much closer to balance than it was in recent history and you can make pretty much every playstyle work right now. |

The proof is in the killfeed. There is a huge variety of suits/weapons being used. It's far from perfect, but it's the best it's ever been. IMO its the best FPS multiplayer lobby shooter ever made (even with its many flaws). There is so much depth to the game, it's ridiculous. There's always a new fit to work towards, and the risk/reward keeps fights intense (like gambling).
Best PvE idea ever!

@OP
Balance is much better.
Patches are not just named differently. Hotfixes are server side fixes, which are what they are sticking to at the moment as they are much less labor intensive and burdensome to us (some patches would require a complete re download of Dust).

We finally elected our own Council of Planetary Management which includes, but not limited to, Kevall Longstride, Judge Rhadamanthus, Cross Atu, Iron Wolf Saber and others. People have reservations about Iron Wolf but at the very least we have people like Judge, Cross, and Kevall with Judge having the majority vote which (if you take Eve's CSM model) equates to being Chairman of the Council. Strangely enough, Eve-Offline.net reports a slight rise in the number of simultaneous logins since last month with just this week seeing 4447 users logged in at once on the 30th. This is higher than normal given the state of the game. I still don't understand this.

I was there when MCCs were moving objects rather than stationary. Then again, we couldn't really spawn in them. Ah, the good old days of Skirmish 1.0. How I miss that game mode. I wish it could come back. I mean, it might be possible since CCP still probably has the code for it archived somewhere.

No meaningful changes or additions to the core content which has been lacking for a very long time.
EVE players still don't care, still don't want to talk to you, and still wouldn't help you for all the ISK in the galaxy.
In terms of balance it is getting better with what little core content is available being slowly iterated on.
Vehicles still suck.
FW is now farmville.

Having played little recently I did get back into it for the increased SP week. I didn't cap it out and that might be a first for a boosted SP event.
However, the state of the game for me is that it is mostly boring. The hot fixes keep changing things for the worse. Each one does a Nerf on something. Even the buffs turn out to be a Nerf in the end. They buff AV and the ADS sucks worse. The balance Swarms and now every other set of incoming swarms are Wiyokumi's. And vehicle death by Forge Gun, Assault Pro cover at least 80%. Non-prototype kills are usually an entire squad of junk weapons. With the armor repair nerf hammered armor is death, shield tanking has always sucked so they die even faster.
The balance of the game is miserable. Nothing new there except the imbalance moves around every hot fix.
I no longer have any prototype suits skilled, until they quit moving everything downwards I think it is just wasting SP.
CCP Rattiti claimed in his initial posting (regarding hot fix alpha I believe) that they would only be doing small tweaks, a few at a time (one was what I recalled). So for Large Blaster Turrets they changed everything about it: damage, range, heat, added massive dispersion and made the gun the least accurate of the tank weapons. As a result I quit running blasters. Why bother running an anti-infantry tank that cannot kill infantry. About 1/3 of the supply depots are still not accessible by vehicles. Client problem so no change expected. Most likely because changing the supply depot functional radius would affect infantry as well.
My ground fits suck. They have removed the bonuses from my suits of choice. Switched them to other types and/or races. Scouts rule, the prototypes are nearly impossible to kill and the KB/M players move like a water drops on a hot skillet. Which means the slow network architecture from CCP will rarely record a hit against them as they have moved at least twice before the bullet you fired arrives where you aimed at. The good news is that CCP Rattiti is talking about fixing that ... only in tanks. By making them very slow to change direction. Which will make the controller players suffer even more now than they do. Sounds like fun.
Assault suits suck. The only worthwhile versions are starter fits. Because Free.
Heavies are such a mixed bag you should ask others. I have skilled into Gallenti ADV but have started skilling into Amarr as well. But that is only because I got caught with a bucket of Amarr suits when they reset the world and the Amarr was junk until recently. At least this way I can clear some of the trash from my inventory. No player market ever means all the useless reward and salvage items just clutter up the fitting screen with items that are useless and will never be skilled into.
Client bugs will never be fixed. The modded controllers cannot be overcome and the input handler code is obviously in the client. The Unreal Engine 3 was never a good solution for game controller versus KB/M input anyway. Guns don't always fire. Buttons don't always register. Compared against some of my modern Steam games (PC/Mac/Linux obviously) the difference is severe.
As ever, no SP reset is even a remote possibility. In New Eden no SP is wisely spent. Eventually you will regret it.
All of the bad news aside I played more during the last week than in the last month. The only reason I did was because some of my friends were online. When they don't play I don't bother even turning on my PS3.
BTW, there is an iOS PSN app. You can check to see if your PSN friends are playing. And it will tell you if they are playing dust ... or not. Probably an Android one as well I would suspect. A pleasant alternative to having to turn on my noisy PS3 only to find everyone is playing Destiny beta or watching Netflix. During the increase SP event more of them were playing Dust. They all complained about getting Officer Stomped. Its the new thing. Proto Stomping wasn't enough. Six Krinn Burst HMGs on my very fist battle for the week. Fun? No, not really. Yes Scottie is still the dumbest AI ever. Two characters logged in an between them seven games that were already lost. How close? Well, I couldn't leave battle because the defeat screen was already up!
You go have a nice day, and thanks for asking.
To everything there is a season yet in Dust there is little reason.
