I'm a proponent of changing laser damage profile to +15%/-15%. This would help to balance shields and armor but would leave a gap at the extreme end to match explosive damage's effect on armor. Right now flux grenades are too powerful against stacked shields, especially Caldari sentinel. If everything else changes to balances shields with armor but flux grenades don't change, Caldari sentinels will still be unusable.
My solution to this--and also something that will give shield tankers in general some breathing room--is to change flux grenades so that they do a tiny bit more damage than locus grenades, with a damage profile of +20%/-20% (the opposite of explosive damage). So they now would damage armor about the same as locus grenades damage shields. On the other hand they would still tear up shields, but wouldn't just make them disappear. This would enable Caldari sentinels to stand and fight among the explosions--which all other sentinels can do--and keep shield tankers in general from having to abandon their position after getting fluxed.
But there's more! There needs to be a weapon, not just a grenade, that uses this damage profile...one that can be used as the go-to AV weapon against shield-tanked HAVs, but which also can be effective in getting some splash damage against clustered enemies and devastating direct hits against heavies that fail to get out of the way. Ladies and gentlemen....I give you.....
The Flux Cannon!
Switch the plasma cannon to the new flux damage profile, increase its projectile speed, give Gallente commandos a damage bonus to flux weapons as well, and bam!!!--we have a working anti-shield HAV, anti-low flying shield ADS AV weapon! And with the increased projectile speed it can be used against logi train heavies and choke points. AND as shields and armor come further into balance it can be tweaked (or an assault variant created) to make it more effective against shield-tanked infantry, if the time comes when shields have been a bit over-balanced and need a counter. |

No.
These kinds of broad changes can't just be done willy nilly. Notice how the fact that they are changing the Projectile profile is a huge deal? It messes with a lot of weapons, and a lot more than "I don't like fluxes" needs to be taken into account. |

Gotta remember that fluxes are also anti shield AV grenades, they can't simply do anti infantry levels of damage.
I think fluxes should be left as is, yeah shield heavies are hurt for it, but those who use it are denying themselves easy kills with the Core 'Nuclear' Locus.

Yes, that's the way it is but it doesn't have to be that way. Flux grenades having both anti-vehicle and anti-infantry roles is like trying to straddle two horses. We end up in the road.
Imagine if locus grenades were meant for anti-vehicle as well? They'd be disappearing infantry. We've got AV grenades for vehicles. With this change we'd lose flux grenades as AV but gain a lot of balance. Plasma (flux!) cannons are about to become more viable in AV so that more than bridges the gap.
If changes like this are made then we'll have more situations in which the Core Locus grenade won't be a guaranteed winner. Caldari sentinals can shrug them off, but they need to be allowed on the field.
(I don't run Cal sentinal btw.) |

NO. shield tanking is already laughable at best with out this monstrosity of an idea
