Why?
-NK hit detection is more consistent -NKs are quieter and seldom alert other nearby enemies -NKs use no ammo -NKs can two-shot an Onikuma whilst in armor (mmm... that vehicle damage) -NK damage is equally applied to both shield and armor -NKs at Proto require less CPU/PG than a Duvolle Specialist Shotgun -NKs cost less -NKs are a sidearm which leaves room for a decent light weapon to be equipped -NKs benefit more from damage modifiers -You can equip two NKs for maximum badassery! -NK hit detection is more consistent
I have boths NKs and SGs to Prof. 4. In my opinion, Shotguns are only better at the lower levels but start to fall short to NKs at ADV: even more so at Proto and with Proficiency.
What holds the SG back is its horrible hit detection and the fact that skilling higher into Operations tightens its spread which in effect makes the SG more of a close quarters precision weapon. Also, any lag will throw SG hit detection off even more, often resulting in a lot of "missed" shots. If SG Proficiency was reverted back to its original RoF bonus and if Operations instead increased the effective range or applied the current Proficiency bonus of shield damage, it would be a better weapon.
In all, SGs are kind of broken and have been so for a long time. Remember the days when shots would fire away from the direction you were aiming at? Those were some pretty bad times, but at least things have slightly improved. Hell, the cloak has even made SGs appear to be somewhat OP, but in truth, all it really has done is give players a means to cover the mistakes left by an ill-performing weapon.

your welcome I can't "breach" well. If by chance my first shot misses, I'm screwed.
With NKs, I can keep the pressure on with a bunch of R1 spam and jumping sprint charged shots.
