Before this idea is shot down, hear me out. Every other equipment and weapon in this game has something limiting it from being used constantly. Weapons overheat and/or need to be reloaded, turrets overheat, nano hives have a limited amount of ammo and reps to give out, uplinks have timers and limits on amount of clones that can come through, cloaks have a limit on activity, scanners have cool down timers, and injectors don't have anything, but they're not used constantly.
Why are rep tools the only one that are unlimited? They're using energy, even if their target is at full health, the system is still running. They never overheat and as long as their target doesn't get to far away, the stream never stops. So what do we all end up seeing? a Heavy with logi dogs on their floating yellow leashes behind him, just waiting for that sniper round to hit or waiting for the other team's counter attack so they can start getting points. Now have two logi's with double target rep tools running around in a triangle chain, and you have a situation where you can't even surprise attack and take out one of the dogs unless you have an overwhelming amount of damage.
Rep tools are useful key element in the game, but there is no reason why they are not governed by the same rules as everything else. Adding a heat build up will require their users to use them more tactfully, and give the enemy an opportunity to form a decent strategy. Currently, the only way to take them out is to throw as many clones as you can at the logi's, hoping you can take one down before the master shoots you. Even that's almost impossible when both logi's have an injector in their second equipment slot, or when the assholes are reping in commando suits.
Rep tool's need an overheat. |

How are they discouraged? The best squads I run into have two or three logi's with them, always ending up with the majority of the logi's in the top 5 of the scoreboard. If blue berries aren't running as logi's, it's because they don't know their value. Real squads use them every day. I'm not saying it should be as fast a heat build up as an HMG or a SCR, but there needs to be something. |

I would like using the rep tool to be more interesting to use. Not sure an overheat mechanic is the way to go about doing though.
What percentile of Dust514's infantry arsenal belongs to the category of machine guns?

Maybe add an amount of ammo with a reload, but increase the rep rate? Also add that it can be resupplied at a supply depot, making supply depots more a crucial part of the battle. |

Sure on some maps, the supply depot is underground, but if you get Manus Peak and that gets implemented, expect nobody to carry reps.

Personally I think reptools just need a rainbow colour alternating beam to make them more interesting... Seriously the crackly yellow electricity is just boring... At the very least cookies should fly out and actively patch bullet holes in the armor :3

That just mutual destruction, both teams will be hurt by having the supply depot destroyed. It still wouldn't affect the usefulness of the rep tool. in theory, a nano hive should be able to resupply it as well. |

Well, I've seen matches on Manus Peak where it's not just C's supply depot, but our ground supply depot go up in flames too...
From the initial sound of it, I interpreted that rep tools could only resupply at supply depots. Nanohives resupply could be better...
I still disagree with the overheat on a rep tool, at least in the sense you are thinking.

Rep tool's need an overheat. Firstly.. they use a miniature capasitor nearly the same power output as a Rifter(EVE frigate) so of course it will seem limitless cause the power use is minute compared to the power supply.. And no, no they dont need an overheat.. they already have a goddamn hard point per minute cap on them anyway.. you obviously do not run logi or are butthurt about logi supported players to even suggest something this terri-bad. a logi with out a rep tool is just another medic-scout-slayer-thing.. with the overheat it would be killing logi as a class.. in meat grinders i can stand and be repping up sentinels and bricked players back up to full 1 at a time and still be behind on how many need my malpractice.. err.. help.. with maybe .5 seconds between each player needing my care and for a constant time till a scout throws an RE and gets a multikill(me included)

A logi's rep tool is pretty much his/her lifeblood, adding overheat to the reps is like an army medic having patients wait 10 minutes after he saves someone else
Better to have a reptool on constantly and never need it, than to need a logi's love and never receive it, especially all Dem fatboys lol |
