Underflank = running directly at people when they are looking at you

Overflank = flanking so hard you are still running directly at them while they are looking at you

Positioning is the easiest thing there is in the game.

Take note of what direction the enemy is paying attention to. Move around and attack from the exact opposite direction, with as much cover and elevation on your side as possible.

Much of it is knowing the map as well.

If you wanna knife start slow :

Do one of two things either stealth your suit or tank it with a reactive and a feroscale to keep your speed.

You have to nail your aproach, speed doesnt mean crap if you cant sneak, and the cloak will just make you dependant, guys like me, an musturd learned by line of sight before cloaks.
As far as stabbing goes the suit was buffed with endurance and knives detection so thats fine, you need to work on line of sight.

Try making cheap fits in a basic min scout with basic shields and basicmods.

 Try this:

 Basic min:

 Comp shield
 basic shield
 cr
 adv or pro nk
 re compact or two compacts
 basic reactive
 red

Then make a similar ADV fit with two damps and a pro cloak.

See what makes you better with or without stealth.

Because if you dont break line of sight and your not attacking scouts, no stealth and no cloak wont matter, and that will make you knife more careful because of no crutch.

Ive been getting 20 kill games in a speed tanked min ASSAULT with knives and a smg, so trust me its the approach and building your suit to the way you play.

Speedand weak wont help if your not stealthy, your better off using a a different fit.

One of my best knife fits is a complex reactive and two complex shield regulators in the lows, I pick my targets wisely and if spotted or attacking two I rep instantly, I kill one then find cover untill the second thinks ive fled, and if he thinks im wounded im back to 500 hp in second so SUPRISE MOFAKKAH!

WORK on using no cloak die alot then find out what your doing wrong

Yes, you just got rocked by a guy with a BOLT PISTOL and a pair of knives! ! |

Sometimes if you see a red go by, don't go after him. Notice where he came from. Maybe a string of reds are following him and you can wait till they all pass so you can knock em down like dominoes.

When hunting tanks I sometimes try to get a good angle on them and try and flank them until I look around and see that I ran completely around the map.

positional advantage is a tricky mistress and it can vary depending on the weapons present.

first try to scout your target and observe their suit and weapon at the minimum, how much HP if you have the time to decloak and point a gun at them saftly from out of their LoS

once you know what your up against you will know how agressive you can be or weather or not its better to wait for a better oportunity

for positions your looking for either a height advantage or a LoS advantage, either way you want to make sure that as much of your own characters body is blocked by terrain, this is why verticle terrain is so key.

if your in a ditch facing a flat area, the enamy can only see a tiny portion of you but you can see all of them. making it so that yoru harder to hit and they are easyer to hit. The same is true of a height advantage as you can use the terrain to cover the lower portion of your character lowering the amount of surface area they can hit.

combined with your suits high evasive potential a setup like this will give you a massive advantage in a gunfight especially if you get first strike, a newer player will be defeated outright and an experianced player is forced to attempt a retreat. anyone who trys to go toe to toe with you while you have this kind of advantage is going to lose unless there is an exceptional gap in your skills in their favor.

People have poor pereferal vision, their eyes can only make out details in the center of their focus on their moniters meaning a cloaked scout on the edge of their screen is the same thing as complete invisability. using this trick you can get used to what exactly a character can see based on what direction the character is pointing and you can use this to stay out of their LoS as they advance.

People are T-Rexes, once you get the periferal aproch down you can take more risks with it, you can stand in LoS while standing still and they wont notice you if they have something else in focus, if they are sprinting they cant use their crosshairs to identify you, but if they are walking they have their gun ready and will notice it change to red if they are looking in your direction.

the positional advantage aproch can be used with any suit, although naturally higher speed lends itself better to moving from position to position faster alowing you to get out of a position as you lose your advantage.

remember in this game you cant really use cover horizontally, as your whole body will still be visable due to us not having any peek control (where you poke just your upper body out of cover) so in reality in this game there are only two types of cover.

LoS cover that blocks LoS completly
Verticle cover that you can use for attack

i like to refer to these as defencive cover (horizontal cover) and aggressive cover (verticle cover)

when moving for attack i always try to engage from agressive cover while having a piece of defencive cover nearby in the event my agressive cover becomes disadvantagious.

this is the essence of positional advantage

In the event you have to engage from defencive cover

use the peek aproch pereferably with an automatic weapon but with practice you can do it with nearly anything.

from a position like this you have one distinct advantage, you know when your going to leave cover, and they dont. This gives you a tiny amount of time to shoot without being shot back. I like to start by shooting BEFORE i exit and alowing the shots to continue as i peek just far enough out of the defencive cover to land a few shots then dip back into my cover as their reaction time kicks in and bullets start coming your way.

due to that small window in wich they are taking damage but you arnt you can attempt to dps race them as most people wont waste bullets shooting at the cover you ar ehiding behind and will only start shooting when they see you exit the cover. naturally human reaction times result in that gap where you can edge out more dps then they can.

Somethign to note when attacking like this however is that anyone well versed in positional advantage who predicts this behavior WILL rush you WHILE firing at the spot you would peak out from usually with an automatic or more commonly with an SMG due to its high clip size. they will then use it as THEIR cover.

Unfortunatly defencive cover works 2 ways, both partys gain the advantage of it as long as 1 party is using it, so at any point you are using defencive cover you must be aware that other parties can sue the exact same tricks to engage you with as you can to engage them to equal effect.

This is why agressive cover is supirior for attack and why defencive cover is only truly useful to create an opening for escape.

 ^ This.

Check your target's shields/armor prior to attack; know how long it's going to take you to drop him.
Anticipate reaction of neighboring hostiles; assume they'll see you when you strike and plan accordingly.
If your target's a beefy one, wait until he's firing at someone else prior to striking, or open with a flux.

 Shoot scout with yes.
