If sidearms cost same SP as light weapons, why must they be weaker and in some cases, harder to fit?

They are smaller and therefore less efficient. They can still kill and be as powerful with other draw backs. Thats the sidearm motto

Its a core weapons skill......their size determines the calibre/ output of their projectiles. They are more compact and therefore less able to carry large number of high calibre shells/ bullet.
Therefore they should be less powerful than their larger rifle counter parts. However what the do allow is utility and a second damage type. Thus worth the SP investment.

Then why do some sidearms like SMG harder to fit.

Because it uses a sidearm slot, and not a light weapon one.
There is a clear weapon slot hierarchy.
Heavy weapon slot > Light weapon slot > Sidearm slot
Heavy weapon slots can be used for anything. Light weapon slots can be used for light weapons and sidearms. Sidearm slots can only be used for sidearms.
The sidearm is what you switch to when your primary weapon is insufficient for the situation.

And then, once more, I return to the forums.

Dat magsec.
I personally enjoy running sidearms. If only the ADV versions fitting wasn't so high... See: -Ion pistol -Magsec -Bolt pistol
They have fitting costs that rival their racial rifle, yet are clearly inferior.
I'd like a fitting reduction personally.
