We've been having an inordinate number of freezes since Charlie dropped. Happening in PCs and pubbing, but more the former than the latter as best as I can tell.
Personally, I hadn't had a hard freeze since probably last year but it happened twice in the last week.
I never have more than 2 extra channels. |

Delete any other saved file or game over 2 gigs in Size.
Not sure why, I could not isolate the issue, but if you have too many downloaded games too large in size, it will freeze up. Since doing this I have not had a single freeze in over a year.
I have nothing on my PS3 except Dust -- and still get the occasional freeze with Charlie.
Ideas?

Could be, but the issue is widespread enough to suggest it's not hardware related.
Your assertion does beg the question: Do you have any ideas for how to test the integrity of the PS3 hard disk?
I'm no PS3 expert, and have no idea how to accomplish this, thus the question.... |

Safe mode checked out just fine.
However, it happened one more time tonight. Interestingly enough, it occurred just as I overheated the bHMG. |

The other thing I think it might be is RAM. The fact that so many people report this happening just as they're firing or even overheating burst HMGs makes me think this is more likely. Basically when there's so much going on on screen and in physics calculations (etc) there's too much to hold in RAM and the system crashes. There's typically a lot going on when your burst HMG overheats. I am FAR from an expert but for me it does always happen in high intensity moments, e.g. when ADSing at a group of enemies who are all firing back, or when changing direction rapidly in an LAV. The frozen frame always looks action packed, like a screenshot they'd give to IGN for publicity. Never had it when I'm just walking through a field on my own.
That certainly describes what was happening to me last night. I was in one of the small city sockets, in a hallway near the point. Had just killed two guys and had two more in my sight when the game froze. A lot was going on at the time. Next time it happens I'll take a photo and post it.
