I know they are a great way to earn war points, but they are a hindrance to the team and therefore winning for the following reasons... 1. Smart Deploy forces you to deploy to available uplinks. 2. Uplinks get camped. This is not really a problem in other game modes because killing clones is not the only objective, but in Ambush uplinks can be camped without worrying about objectives. So please, remove the uplink from your dropsuits when playing Ambush. Carry nanohives, scanners, needles, repair tools, cloaks, just no uplinks How do you kill that which has no life?

You are hurting you and your team's chance of winning for a few WPs. How do you kill that which has no life?

Since Smart Deploy frequently acts like a moron, I spawn in, cloak, and run to the opposite side of the map, so that mercs aren't forced to spawn where that dumbass Scotty tells them. However, OP is correct in some ways -- If you run uplinks in Ambush, don't be a dumbass and just chuck them anywhere. Put them in protected, secluded areas of the map. This way, 1) vehicle operators on your side can spawn in away from the action so they can call their tanks/ADSs in, 2) mercs that are being stupidly deployed can re-group elsewhere, instead of AFKing. I'll be nice and at least drop them in ready to flank the enemy spots if it makes you feel any better. But honestly if I'm running ambush im doing it to abuse the sp and isk/hour so being a logi ***** is the best way to do that in ambush. I do giggle a little when I walk out of an ambush with like 350K+ because I had nearly 3k points from uplinks when our team was just getting murdered.

The problem is not uplinks, the problem is lemming like behavior. The best thing you can do to prevent spawn camping is to have uplinks, to deploy them strategically and to defend them. My frustration occurs when my team is getting smashed, lets say by Heavies in the city, I'll break out and deploy uplinks, on high ground with open space and overlapping fields of fire. Then people spawn in and run back into the deathtrap I worked to get them out of. Because, that's why.

Sure having them camped can lose the battle, but I've seen worse things from smart deploy. If there are multiple drop uplinks, I will only go to one once if it is camped. With smart deploy, your only option is not to deploy until there is nobody in the field so smart deploy deploys you to a new location.

I run around to a far place on the opposite side of any other links or spawn points and keep moving the links around the board to allow for players to flank. I think I do a decent job and from what I see most all the team is able to stay up. However, unless something got broke last hotfix there is a difference in smart deploy and link deploy. Brick tanking a scout suit since April 2013!

Smart deploy almost always deploys you to the highest concentration of your allies (provided a certain minimum is hit) if all of your allies end up getting 'wiped' from an area, even if an uplink is there it will spawn you elsewhere. hit the **ing triangle button if you don't want to use an uplink. 2) Actually, it's a bigger problem in other game modes as it's entirely possible to only give one location to spawn (outside of the redline) and then just murder anyone who spawns there for days while a token force keeps the rest redlined. In ambush even if an uplink gets capped the games end fast and you probably lose no more than 3-5 suits which is entirely sustainable if you choose to make intelligent choices when you notice what's happening. Seriously what time of day and what server do you guys play on; cause I can play ambush all day on automatic and not once see an uplink placed in a good spot. Some times everyone suddenly spawning behind the enemy is exactly what the team needed. Only keep one active and be ready to drop a fresh one to cancel the previous one out if you suddenly start gaining lots of WP. Your game f'ing sucks, but I'll still play it, damn you! Turns out I wont.

I can think of a number of battles back before 1.7 where i used my min-logi infiltrator fit to go behind the enemy lines and lay a couple of drop uplinks and start hacking objectives and that turned the tide of the battle from a sure loss to a close win, or a total stomp to a more respectable loss. Since 1.7, I have not done it much, but have still pulled it off or watched others on my team do it.

They say when you die you see a white light which then forms the line of: "GAME OVER! PLEASE INSERT COIN"

While bad players placing Uplinks into bad places will always cause your team to get camped, someone placing multiple links far away from the battlefield means that you have somewhere else to spawn that doesn't utilize the "Smart" Deploy feature. AFAIK, the Smart Spawn doesn't actually spawn on where a Drop Uplink is. It may show the animation, but you almost always spawn in a different location. DUST 514's 1st Matari Commando -HAND

I am pretty sure MINA is correct on this one. Whe you use smart deploy even though you get count down circle around the uplink you'll notice that you often spawn no where near said uplink. The spawn seems to be working "correctly" in that it puts you with the largest concentration of your team mates Now it may be that the largest concentration of your team mates is at a camped uplink, since they have all been spawning there, but I don't think that is a smart deploy error rather an indication that the whole smart deploy system needs a revamp. Fun > Realism
