If you're looking for a good suit right away, any of the assaults will do. It really depends on the weapon you use, try and match racial rifle to racial suit (i.e. scrambler with Amarr), but that's only because the assault suits give you a bonus to those weapons. I'd recommend Amarr or Gallente if you don't have a ton of module skills yet. Minmatar is probably the hardest to use but most rewarding. Caldari is pretty easy to use, but requires at least all shield skills to level 3 to actually make it worthwhile. It has a 95/110 damage profile which is why its so good.

I've gone back to it since charlie and getting great stats. Don't bother with proto it's absurdly expensive of course. Advanced is well enough you can fill it with armour and make like a tank with a powerful AR, RR, LR or whatever.. Room for damage mods as well - room for something explosive...
