Take a page from the Caldari and focus mostly on making yourself have great regen and decent armor without sacrificing too much speed. If you are Rping Gallente and are focusing on using gallente weapons making yourself incredibly slow with stacks of armor plating, this is why you feel your AR/Shotgun sucks on your assault suit. Brick tanking is for the Amarr, it's what they do best. IE if you are going to brick tank you might as well run a Rail Rifle and SMG.

Double-Edit: Also keep in mind that pistols are some of the easiest weapons to fit pg/cpu wise. SMGs and especially Magsecs are cpu/pg intensive compared to the pistols.

It's the spam pistol, which you would think would make it popular. I think as people often say DON'T CHARGE IT! Its charge damage is garbage for it overheating, it's also pretty garbage at ADS. That said, out of all the sidearms, it's the fastest at spamming down enemies, has the largest magazine, and reloads quickly. Hell I like to couple it with a mass driver and ion shields off then finish the armor with the mass driver. If you compare it to the other pistols, which it's a pistol so why wouldn't you? It's pretty balanced. Ion pistol is good at CQC spam much like all the other gallente plasma tech Scrambler pistol is decent at CQC and moderate distances which is fitting for the ScR's little brother. Bolt pistol is Alright in CQC but slow much like the other rail weapons but great at range. Flaylock pistol is pretty ****... If anything people should be complaining about the flaylock the ion pistol is godly in comparison to the flaylock.

Well I don't know what to tell you, if you keep the reticle centered with hipfire and just fire as fast as you can you are likely to hit enough to kill them, at least if any other pistol would kill them you would kill them with the ion. I also don't overheat it though I typically fire like 8 shots rapid fire then wait a moment and fire the other 4 if the target didn't die in the first 8 shots. I've killed more bolt/scrambler pistol users with my ion pistol then the opposite happening. Again though I must stress, do not ADS and do not charge shot. Treat it like it's the ScR in CQC. Like if you want a video example in an ironic way, watch Shayz video with the ion pistol and do the opposite of what he does.

My bad forgot about how stupidly high the bolt is on pg... I think that's more or less just bad implementation. If I had to guess, I'd assume it's because it can act as a stupidly short range tactical SR. It's just you know Tactical SRs aren't very good dps wise... I think CCP thought the bolt was going to be OP which in all fairness it wrecks low hp suits very fast. I kill a lot of scouts and MLT suits with the bolt pistol. But so can the ion and scrambler. Anyways I digress, my point was only that in comparison to the other pistols the ion isn't that bad. It's a hell of a lot better than the flaylock, but so is melee.
