I've been playing dust since the second batch of private beta testing went out, using m/kb since chromosome, and I've been using turbo enabled devices for the better part of 9 months. With the current worrying of the scrambler rifle and m/kb I thought I'd just share my experiences and hopefully bring to light issues and dispel some myths.
My current setup uses an Eagle Eye to plug in my mouse and keyboard to simulate a controller, this has its own pros and cons. K/M had its own set of difficulties in chromosome, namely issues with sensitivity that made you choose from either having an awkward and jittery crosshair or relegating yourself to slow-mo scrolling, but it was workable. In uprising things got really wonky. There was various phases of awkward mismatched scroll speed and sensitivity, wonky hit detection, and more cross hair stability shenanigans. At the onset there wasn't any sort of aim assist so you still felt like you were doing the best since both inputs were heavily flawed.
By the time aim assist came by, things were terrible for the k/m setups fixes in hit detection seemed to rely on aim assist which didnt work for k/m setups, even still a mouse was simply acting like a virtual joystick, you can google all you want on virtual joysticks but the vast benefits people expect from a mouse just don't exist on dust. That said strafing is much easier on a keyboard though its certainly possible to get the same tight back and forth "**** you hit detection" strafing on a controller, it just takes much more practice, many of the now gone top level players can agree to this but I'm sure theres a few still sticking around.
So after a short break I came back to dust and bought an Eagle Eye. This did a few things for me. First, I was able to customize controls I mean jesus who mapped the melee and grenade keys on the raw input? I can actually use those and not stop moving in certain directions! I got to keep aim assist which would have just bugged out my aiming directions before and now lets me take advantage of most of the improvements in hit detection. Now the downside is, despite endless recalibrating and multiple mouse trials I can't quite get the nice spin that you can on a raw mouse input but I think the benefits out weigh my losses here. I do still get some of the weird bugs that you get on m/k setups, sometimes my character tries to randomly open the menu, and he'll try to swap weapons on his own but those are bugs dating back for ages.
Oh, and I got on demand turbo for any of my buttons.
So scrambler rifles, if you didn't already know, use a copy and pasted heat mechanic from the laser rifle in a weird time saving lazy programming attempt. I actually posted that you could abuse this to fire a variety of different numbers of shots before over heating the first or second week the scrambler rifle actually came out. I was mocked off the forums amusingly. Depending on the lag gods I can technically squeek out an extra 2 -3 shots before over heating if just fire till I over heat, but in a burst I generally only really get 1-2 shots more, which really isn't the end of the world, especially since I don't want to over heat ever so you burst your shots anyways. Its a slight edge, its probably not the only reason some one dies but occasionally I look down at my health after a fight and see that Im down to about 100 hp left and I'll know it probably saved my bacon. On the other hand I often lose concentration and giggle at Cruor Abominare committed suicide. You could actually make this irrelevant by just fixing the the heat mechanic anyways to a per shot basis to begin with and fix the sloppy code.
Amusingly, the actual benefit to turbo comes in two distinct areas. First is actually sidearm swapping. Dust does this weird thing that if you try to fire too quickly after a swap your gun just doesnt fire, this is especially annoying with the smg or switching back to an automatic primary. Since the turbo is spamming I don't I have to worry about this awkward coding and simply know that yes my character will actually fire once finished swapping. This more than any other affect has saved me the most and is painfully apparent when I have turbo off when I need to fire something like the rail rifle, a turret, or a swarm launcher (sometimes I forget this one and hilariously die wondering why I wasnt locking on).
The other, and I'm honestly afraid to say it because I'd rather it not be put down like the tac rifle, is the CR. This weapon is just more of a dream hipfiring, between this and the scram its clearly the one that gets all the perks from actually using turbo. Granted if you're aiming down sights and try to keep the turbo going fully blast it'll kick everywhere like a coked up rail rifle, mm but that hipfire no spread max skills is just sexy.
so tl dr , turbo on a scram rifle? Fix the heating mechanic problem solved, and if you're going to turbo use the CR |

You bring up a couple of good points, as a KBM player ive never really have had the luxury of using Melee & Grenades properly, and the equip weapon "no fire for you" has gotten me killed more then i can count, its why i always have just the locust grenade equipped, can't properly prime & time it when you need the same finger to strafe. So never got any good grenading done like King Babar on here.
Around when Uprising hit i ordered an Eagle Eye because you could not aim anymore in this game it was like derpy derp got hold of your mouse when you tried to line one up and i was too addicted to the game. There are allot of posts from me around that time with settings etc, but i could never make it work well without making it feel like i was aiming with pixels instead of any smooth movement, i took a break back then until they fixed their issues with KBM (few weeks) and the thing has been collecting Dust in my closet, i spend a couple of days trying to make it work, till i gave up and i didn't feel like getting another one.
Reading this, I should take it back out and try a spin with it, just to see how different the Bullet Magnetizing effect is with the aim-assist as ive not really had any issues hitting or killing people without it, but i did notice in subsequent patches where the assist got adjusted that people would literally lock onto me and kill me, this effect has gone down considerable as patches came and went.
What are your settings that made you able to use it without a granular feel? It made for me aiming med to long distance with it impossible, though for me it just might not be compatible with my Razor Naga Mouse and looking at the website, the thing has not seen any updates since i aquired it.

On paper sure. But even if I hold the trigger down like an idiot till it over heats, I'm only sneaking in an extra 2 or shots which isn't driving my dps much higher than it would normally do. If I'm playing it safe and not wanting it to blow up in my face its a solid extra shot. Can the turbo give you an edge and unfair edge? Yes, but its not wtf auto kill do 100000x more dps because you have turbo mechanic people seem to think it is
The problem is that the mechanic is flawed, it needs to be heat per shot and not heat per second just about any one can edge up real close if not hit its rpm even without turbo. Running about and changing anything else is just needless burying the weapon.
Now the CR? thats night and day because I can happily go through the whole clip hipfiring and abusing the rpm. |

I'm running a rat 7, I don't snipe much but you can usually tone the dead zone down to be good enough for most shooting. You'll still run into that awkward just one pixel off situation where trying to adjusted it sends you over 2 pixels. I probably spent a good 2-4 hours playing with the settings till i got something useable and just powered through it for a while until my hands learned to deal with the flaws. I've got my nades and melee tied to mouse now so I can just focus on movement.
Still its a lot of max all the sensitivities minimize all the dead zones and crank up that mouse iso, and let the magnetism deal with the finer points of hipfiring.
The magnetism makes a world of difference on the eagle eye, I wasn't terribly impressed with it (it amusingly works better on other games because dust is so wonky) until I swapped back on aim assist and started to let dust do the work for me. |

Who needs turbo when you can pull off 20 ScR shots with your finger before overheating? Thank you picado guitar technique. You have served me well. |

Ive had a Rat 7 before i bought my naga, but i am a low sensitivity player to do a 180 turn, i need to use my full mousemat (Razor Sphex x2) and my model Rat 7 needed 1 second to recalibrate when you picked it up and put it down again.
If its still doing that 2 pixel thing when you want to move only 1, then even with your settings, i couldn't get used to it even if i tried and if i did it would ruin my muscle memory, not worth it.

I would just like to trial run it, see how it affect me or others that have used it, not run it 24/7, personally i would feel bad using it and my aim is still good enough to get by without it.
Guess it continues to collect Dust in my closest then :p

hah I'm a lousy guitar player, but hooray finger dexterity. I tried to point out that the benefits of turbo are in other places not really the scr. You can hit the rpm peak without just like you are. |

your mileage may vary but even with the sensitivities and ISO maxed out and on the higher side of the eagle eye calibrations, its still a pretty slow rotational speed, my g5 back in chrome would do these amazing 180's with a slight flick, my rat does quite a bit of traveling on an extra large mouse pad.
I'd give it a go there's trades but hell you paid for it so might as entertain yourself for an evening. |

Ill give it a testrun when i got some time, just really wanna know how the aim-assist/magnet has worked against me all this time, cuzz ive run scores of 87/5, 73/3 but mostly within 30-50/x etc...
Destiny is just around the corner anyways so i doubt ill get much Dust time till Legion hits on the PC, got my PS4 with Venom X sitting pretty, but already tried the Aim Assist in Blacklight and turned it off, it messes up my aim.
