Rushing in just loses you very expensive suits and achieves very little. Using a high DPS burst or Tac Rifle to support your assaults from mid range while rep tanking any incoming fire and remaining AV adaptable should be your first priority.
I've always seen and play the Commando as the slow and steady brawler. You're not rushing in like an Assault would but you just keep going at a good steady pace, burning stuff down that gets in the way.
To the OP:
30/11 is, for one not that insane. Unless it's a total clusterfuck of a match, I typically die in my Standard commando maybe 1-3 times, and score a respectable KDR that varies based on the enemy team's performance. Now the Commando suits my playstyle VERY well, so I probably perform better than the average Commando user simply because its a good fit. That, and your account, as pretty anecdotal.
That being said, you need to balance a suit around the average player. And while I do see Commandos in games, you can see at the end of the match that they tend to *slightly* underperfom compared to other players, on average. As for what changes need to happen? My personal opinion is that the fitting is very very restrictive. It doesn't allow for much creativity and I think they could do to have an increase in slots (and an appropriate increase in resources to match).
I'd even go as far as to say as match their slot layouts to that of the Sentinel, in particular to make sure they're not matched too closely by medium suits which have significantly higher slot counts. Though the exact amount of appropriate increase is up for discussion. |

The progression is kinda weird. You start with a Heavy Frame which uses a Heavy Weapon and a Sidearm, and then skill into a suit which uses neither.
I know I never really played with Commandos seriously until after I was done maxing out my Sentinel, at which point I said "Oh why not, I have all the support skills already leveled." |
