I've taken to running an active scanner on my caldari assault since i'm getting tired of getting cloak shottied in the back by high EHP scouts. Running with the Adv variant for longer scan duration, and I want to know if there are any helpful tricks behind it besides point and scan. Can I turn mid-scan to at least get something like a 90 - 120 degree scan or what?

Can I turn mid-scan to at least get something like a 90 - 120 degree scan or what? As soon as you hit that button, you instantly receive and scan from that direction only so point it wisely.
Scans used to be about 2 seconds long, but people found out (including me) that you could turn and scan at the same time. The result? "Scan-erinas" that could scan 360 degrees. As a result of that unintended side effect, CCP nerfed scanners to be a "snapshot" (which, granted, was the original intention).
As a result, there is a graphic that no longer works properly: the scan bars on the minimap HUD. If you find some older gameplay, you'll see the bars widen, and blue wave going outward, and then the bars retract. Now with the new instant scan, the bars start to open but don't finish their animation, and instantly close again, giving the false perception that you scanned a very narrow area.
Also, this topic would be better suited for the "Rookie Training Ground" section of the forums. While you don't have to post their now, feel free to ask questions there.

hate to say it but the active scanner is pretty much useless for finding scouts unless you're using a gal logi |

I'm a vet man I just wanted to know how they're used now post-nerf. they can pick up most suits but have a hard time picking up proper scouts. and they give a small snapshot in front of you. allso read what it says when you scan if it says some margin off error then there is a damped scout in the area but you could not pick him up. so even is you didn't pick up the scout on scan at least you know he is there and to use caution.

i believe the precision is better on proto than advanced
but literally dude... you will NOT pick up gallente and caldari. not even if they're basic because they'll have the passive skill
unless you want to run the focused on a bloody assault suit. and trust me it's not worth the trouble. 40 second cooldown is a *****
not sure how well this is going to work for you... but chances are you'll never get a proto scout unless he's an idiot and HP stacks with no damps

Yeah... I checked out the dampening stats on the scout suits, that's some bullshit even my skinweve can avoid adv scanners with no mods/skills. Also I knew I wouldn't be able to scan the scouts that were actually EWAR built, but as for the guys stacking EHP one would think you would be able to scan them, I mean **** common.

Active scanners aren't really worth bothering with, tbh. Just get a scout in squad, they do it infinitely better.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Get a basic logi or bricked scout and pro scans , use a adv scan 15 sec 45 db, and the pro 30 sec an 28 db, scan the pro, 15 sec in scan the adv that way you have scans every 25 sec.

If you want to pick up dampened scouts you gotta use a gal. logi with focused scanners. I run 4 of them to create a living hell for scouts.
They say when you die you see a white light which then forms the line of:

You'll never catch a scout with an advanced scanner.
You need a proto one to find an undamped scout. And then, you you'll want to use the Duvolle Focused. If you still can't scan them, you'll need the Gallente Logistics.
Trick to using those things is already having a hint of the action. Do you hear gunshots in a certain direction? Scan it. Going to hack a point but not sure if it's safe? Scan it from the limit of your scan range to get the most area covered.
If it says Some Error of Margin, that means there's at least one scout there, or a heavily damped med frame. |

Active scanner sucks compared to passive scan, but if you want to keep using AS, use the version which recharge faster, scan more frequently is better than have more visibility.
Don't believe that BS when people say it takes skill to scan, all people who say this run 6 man squad with scouts inside, so they know where to point their AS.
Sometime they work, sometime they doesn't work. I have scanned areas with uplinks, at least than 50 meters, nothing appeared, but when i went there, there was the uplink. A lot of time scanner have a delay, you scan the area, 2 seconds after the area is scanned.
