oftin times the purpose of a DDoS attack is to serve as a red herring to distract from another operation going on.
aka its used as a cover for info theft or the implementation of some sort of back door to be used at a later date.
the other common cause is that it tends to be used as an initiation ritual in certain circles.
when this is done change all your passwords as a precaution.

DDoS attacks will continue as long as CCP uses Cold War era servers.

Actually I think hackers are worse than common thieves. Obviously educated, yet this is what they chose to do?
Personally if I met one I would smash his hands beyond reconstruction.

Well.. Yes
And hackers should be feared like cancer and Ebola. And if they disappeared from the world today nobody would miss them.
Wish I had my cancer back, said nobody ever.

I think you overestimate actually.
If they were that 'big' then our accounts would be hacked and ccp wouldn't have the servers up and running at all.
Any scrub can be a script kid or packet spammer, its the lowest end of 'hacking' that anyone can do and it's not even hacking.

CCP's servers haven't been hacked into so far. This is mainly because CCP has a strict policy on how to deal with situations like this. If the DDoS attack reaches a certain level in terms of how much traffic is crammed into their server, they simply pull the plug... literally. Sadly this is the only time hamsters ever get a break from powering Tranquility.
This is obviously not the first time this happened and certainly won't be the last. If you guys recall what happened with Sony almost 5 years ago when the PlayStation Network went down for 3 months, CCP, along with the developers for League of Legends, got DDoS'ed by LULSEC which is an offshoot of Anonymous. CCP was the only company that didn't have their server compromised out of the whole lot because, again, they literally pulled the plug when they saw what was about to happen. Sure, it may damage a node or two in the process, but CCP won't care about that as long as the data is safe and backed up into a separate offline server.
Of course, players still took the precautionary route and changed their passwords anyways just because it made them feel a little more secure especially for those prized Titan pilots or players in very powerful positions.
On Twitter: @HilmarVeigar #greenlightlegion #dust514 players are waiting.

You're right about one thing. Catching a hacker in daylight is rare. The fact remains that some stuff doesn't fall in the "need to be hacked" category?! Video games don't need to be hacked. This one just isn't for you. You don't have to be so desperate to win that you ruin the game for everyone playing?!

this is very accurate information.
with the variety of targets being hit right now it seems that this is someones attempt to impress and join a certain inner circle that will not be named, wich target is the real target is the question that should be asked.
