So I see these different suits...shock assault, caldari c-1 series, minmitar assault, commando suits...What is the difference?
I see a commando with low PG/CPU and alright hitpoints (100/220) and then I see a cheaper caldari c-1 Series with better stats than listed? Is there an extra weapon slot, or damage multipliers/decreases to suits? What is the difference between a normal shock assault suit and a minmitar assault suit?
Also, to whoever uses commando suits pleases list the pros and cons vs normal series suits. :) |

They have different starting stats and slots.
For more information on any suit, go to Marketplace or Assets, if you want to view information on items you already have, and press triangle on them. Throughout the different screens, you are able to view what the suit offers; such as:
-eHP -Speed -Regen -slots -and more! |

Be aware that these are the starting stats and that increasing your core skills WILL improve any and all suits, without changing the suit description.
Minmatar commandos are the fastest Commandos around. They have a bonus to explosive Light weapons (Swarm Launchers, Mass Drivers) and projectile weapons (Combat Rifle). I don't know what you man the normal one. If you mean the basic frame, well that one can equip a heavy and sidearm, while the Commando can fit two lights. Also, basic heavies and sentinels carry grenades. Commandos don't. Instead, they carry equipment.
Thanks, I needed that info. Time to skill into the command...I just used 350k SP on minmitar logistics to put more uplinks and a longer cloak on. Dang it! |

Comparing my Gallente Assault to my Gallente Commando
Here are positives and negatives of the Gallente Commando which is probably universal for all races for the most part.
Negatives: Less slot to work with No Grenades Only 1 High slot (used for Damage mod) Slower Less Regen
Positives: More eHP More Damage Can successfully fill AV and Infantry role. (like the Engineer suit from battlefield) Has an Equipment slot

When determining what type of suit you want, you need to look at the HP values, slot layout, stats and bonuses.
Always take into consideration, what will suit your playstyle. nothing will 'win' for you in dust like most conventional mmos type games.
The HP will tell you the suits survivability.
The slot layout will tell you what the suit is best geared for and what kind of layout you will achieve.
The stats will tell you a number of things like its speed, regen etc, etc.
The bonuses are the icing on the cake and will tell you how best to use the suit.
Armour is more for brawling.
Shields are more for hit and run with quicker regen than armour in general.
Shield based - Caldari and Minmatar.
Armour based - Amarr and Gallente (Gallente is good for Armour repair tanking in general but is also good for stacking Armour).
Caldari tends to adapt a high shield hp fit and prefers to engage at longer ranges.
Minmatar is a shield based suit but also goes for high regen as for for speedy hit and run type play.
Amarr tends to go for maxmimum armour and damage mods in the highs for a slow but devastating setup.
Gallente tends to be all about armour repair tanking but can stack comparable armour and damage as the Amarr.
This is the general outlook BUT you can do whatever you want, however you want. Its just that you will get more out of your suits if you follow these philosophies.
I know this isn't really answering your question but these guidelines apply to all the suits pretty much. You will have to look at what weapons you like as well and take that into consideration with choosing your commando suit as it is a high damage fit and carries two light weapons with bonuses that apply to certain weapons.

If you're just starting out, I can't stress enough that you should be putting all your SP into core skills rather than picking weapons or equipment you like.
That said, If you're just starting out, I also feel obliged to tell you (since CCP won't) that the game has effectively been cancelled, and will no longer see any significant updates.
Destiny won't kill Dust.
CCP already did that.

Commando suits:
Pro: you get two light weapons allowing for some decent wombo combos. Commandos make good squad support with the ability to carry AV and a rifle or a MD/SR and a rifle.
Cons: Pretty much everything else. A well fitted medium suit of equal tier will be faster, have a smaller hitbox, and can have near your e/hp at adv or pass you in e/hp at proto level.
Also keep in mind, Core skills make a huge difference. My adv suits have similar stats to proto suits on players who haven't leveled up their core skills. In the long run, it's cheaper isk wise to focus on Core skills (Skills that give a passive boost to all suits which are found in Dropsuit Upgrades tree) then to sp rush to proto only to bankrupt yourself in matches.
Also as has been mentioned, keep in mind this is a terminal game. Most of CCP's Dust team is working on another project code named Legion for the PC which will likely replace Dust. As far as we know though Legion may not even make it out of development so eh. If this doesn't bother you welcome, and prepare to get wrecked repeatedly by players with far more sp then you will probably ever have. |

Minmatar would probably be the most versatile suit followed up by the Gallente commando. The Amarr suit has the most ehp but is the slowest.

Minmitar is probably the best frontline commando with bonuses to MD/SL/CR and although Gallente isn't bad they only really have the AR/PLC combo which is pretty meh for av but pretty lol for anti infantry. You can fit a shotgun on them but to me that's like putting Nova Knives on anything other than a light suit. Shotguns and fat suits just don't gel, especially not Commandos where pretty much everyone can passive scan and see a Galmmando hiding around a corner and strafing while backpedaling ruins pretty much any hope the Galmmando had of killing the target. Amarr and Caldari are more of the back line support roles with the Amarr's LR/ScR and the Caldari's SR/RR. |

I've also written this so many times that I've just bookmarked my other posts so i could copy and paste it later:
lee corwood wrote: The core skills that matter:
Dropsuit Upgrades -> Armor: +5% base armor per level Dropsuit Upgrades -> Shield: +5% base shield per level Dropsuit Upgrades -> Core -> Electronics: + 5% base CPU Dropsuit Upgrades -> Core -> Engineering: + 5% base PG
Those are the first most important to focus on as it at max, it gives you 25% more armor and shields to the base stats of any suit. So if you skilled into these first, you're already at an advantage starting out even in your starter fit.
Electronics and Engineering is expensive, but getting even to lvl 3 is going to be a huge benefit. There is nothing worse than having an ADV suit and having skilled into ADV modules but not being able to fit them due to PG/CPU restrictions. You're going to run into this problem even more on proto suits if you ignore those two core skills.

If you have a lot of SP into Assault Rifle skills, you should invest into Gallente Commandos.
They get an additional damage bonus to ARs, and you can carry 2 of them at the same time.
