Immortal Guides is a training Corp that has been operating for almost a year now. We do mostly new player training, but I also setup the Student Planetary Conquest Project, mainly as a goal for my students to work toward and encourage them to practice working together in squads and to learn to play as a team. But it is also meant to be an advanced training program for players who wish to gain leadership experience. The Student(s) leading the team will gain experience in leadership, corporate logistics, diplomacy, team building, and other organizational skills.
Over the last six months I have had many students express interest, but only recently have I had someone actual dedicated (or foolhardy) enough to actually initiate a PC battle. They got their asses kicked as you would expect, but I am sure they learned a lot from the experience. I told him to train some more and I would give him another shot in a few weeks. He did that, and I transferred the rest of our PC fund to the Corp wallet so that he could try again.
Apparently when my advanced student saw how little ISK was in the PC fund he came to the conclusion that attacking districts with clone packs and loosing was not a sustainable practice. In this he was right of course. Immortal Guides has very limited funds, as I donGÇÖt tax new players. The funds I was using to finance the Student Planetary Conquest Project were left over from when Ancient Exiles gave Immortal Guides a district back in December. (I ended up giving it back because it was too much work to manage, but we did have a bit of ISK left over.)
My student decided that to learn PC he needed to first acquire a district, so that he and his team could practice with district clones rather than purchasing clone packs each time. So, without consulting me, he scaled up his diplomatic efforts and managed to put together a team of A-Team ringers from a top PC Alliance to take a district for him. They ended up trying to flip a training district owned by a struggling German Alliance, which was not quite in the spirit of what I had intended. Using that many ringers in an attack was of course also in conflict with the rules I had laid out in the Student Planetary Conquest Project, but I do have to give him high marks for his diplomatic success in getting ringers of such quality, and I do have to concede his point that PC training is not sustainable for Immortal Guides if we do not have a district.
My studentGÇÖs associates failed to flip the district, as the district owners brought in friends of their own for the second battle. It is just as well. If we had acquired a district in that manner, we would not have had the community support to keep it for long. We could hardly raise moral objections to some powerful Corp steamrolling us, if we acquired the district in the same manner.
Which brings me to the point of this thread. In order for Immortal Guides to continue to give players who do not normally have access to PC a chance to try it for themselves, we will need a district. We only have enough funds left for one more Clone Pack, which means that continuing to purchase Clone Packs for training is no longer feasible. So I came here to ask if there is a PC Corp that would be willing to provide Immortal Guides with a District as a charitable donation. It would be used for training purposes, with full ringer teams only used if the district is in danger of flipping and no agreement has been made with the attacking Corp. Under normal circumstances there should be no more than 6 ringers to act as instructors, unless other arrangements have been made with the other Corp involved.
I have decided to forgive my studentGÇÖs overenthusiasm on this occasion, as I had left him to his own devices and using ringers was probably the best plan he was able to come up with to get a district. I feel that seeing that he was serious about wanting to run PC battles, I should have used my diplomatic connections earlier to try to obtain a district for him to practice with.

Multiple people have suggested that the best course of action would be to get a district from OH in the Almur system. I have written to rexero. I will wait to see what he has to say before I precede any farther.
If that falls through I will contact you.

Fox not trying to be mean or anything but I was in both of the matches for IG against Black-Guard and what is the point in holding a district when you have barely any active players? The people who fought in the battles from IG was 1 ferry each time who had only STD gear whilst the rest of the team consisted of Warravens, NAE and Murphys Law. If you want to do training just stay in FW, PC is just an ISK sink with no value. Heck IG didn't even pay the ringers when we lost the 2nd match, NAE payed us. I'm all for IG doing some training but if it does get attacked, then you'll only option is to bring a team full of ringers which lack the chemistry and coordination to probably hold it.
Bottom line is, stick to FW, the effort you put into a PC isn't worth it for corps like you, trying to hold a district will be a nightmare. |

From when I played with IG in those 2 PC battles over 2 nights which Fox mentioned in his post, they had 2 people on at max, both of which had begun playing DUST post 1.8 and were inadequate to play PC's unless it is a training match, however there is nothing to stop a real attack unless IG again bring ringers and I know a lot of people who after losing that second match, wouldn't fight for IG again. FW is a much better place to train especially since I have yet to see 16 IG members on at once.

TRULY ELITE makes some valid points, and frankly that was the conclusion I came to when we had a district back in December.
However, players who have not done PC always seem to want some exposure to it. I currently have a student who is all gung-ho and wants to run PC matches, so I figure we give him a district to play with and he might learn something from the experience, at least until he loses it or gets burnt out.
TRULY ELITE is right that most of the membership of Immortal Guides are new players, but that is because we are recruiting new players every day, while experienced players are encouraged to find Corporations that fit their play style and goals when they feel they are ready to leave the nest. There are a lot of Immortal Guides graduates currently active in high level PC. So unlike other Corps, the KDR and Win/Lose ratios for this Corp are not a sign of success. They just show how close we are to the next round of graduations. If the PC training works out I would not be surprised if we get an influx of mid-level players who want to try PC in a less competitive environment.
TRULY ELITE is also right that our active player base is spread over all time zones, so while IG does not really have very many dead times, we donGÇÖt have a lot of people on at any one time either. We would certainly be looking to include other members of the Learning Coalition as well as taking in the newer players from other Corps for our battles. I would even be open to active players putting alts in Immortal Guides which I could give Terrestrial Combat Officer roles to, if someone wanted to help organize battles and train new players.
Immortal Guides is in a rather unique position. We have no allegiances (I have turned down 9 Alliance invitations) and we are open to working with any Corporation or Alliance on training operations. Anyone can join Immortal Guides at any time (unless they have been black listed or their character name is offensive), so if someone wants to setup a training match they can put an Alt in Immortal Guides and then split the available players evenly between the two teams. I am open to giving out the Terrestrial Combat Officer role (unless you have been black listed).
When we had the District back in December we mostly used it for Dropship Flight School. I got an hour and 15 minutes of flight time in, during one such match because we did not hack the points, and that certainly helped with my piloting skills.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

Immortal Guides got a district. (Thanks to 0uter.Heaven and New Age Empire.) We are setup in:
Molden Heath: Almur: Sakalda VI: District 12
I am thinking that once the district produces some clones I would like to setup a giant dogfight.
- Dropships only, for both teams. (No ground based AV)
- DonGÇÖt hack turrets.
- DonGÇÖt hack objectives until we are done playing.
- See which pilot/gunners team is the last Dropship in the air.
