A few notes about being a medic...
1. Minmitar logis make the best medics. They get a 5%/level bonus to the amount that is repped as well as a 10%/level bonus to the repair tool range.
2. Prototype reppers are definitely worth it for the following reasons. - They allow you to support your heavy while they go toe to toe with other heavies or multiple opponents. In an engagement that lasts 3 seconds (assuming you are a proto min logi with a core focussed repair tool) you will give your heavy an extra 468.75 armor points. - They return your allies to max armor points much quicker. - Some of the prototype reppers offer a great range.
Repair tools
2. Tips about teaming up with a heavy. - Equip your dropsuit for support first and survival second. You'll be repping more than firing your weapon. You can stack armor as you only need to be mobile enough to keep up with your heavy. - Keep the repair tool on them at all times while they are engaged in a fire fight (kind of goes without saying). - When they are under fire, let them know if you stop repping them to do something else. - Your job is to keep an eye on your backs, check your six often. - Stay behind cover. If you are running with a heavy who is oblivious to your need for cover, try using a longer range repair tool or find another heavy. - When crossing wide open areas together, use the meat shield technique (keep the repair tool on the heavy and keep him between you and the incoming fire). - If you are supporting only one heavy use the core focus repair tool. If you are supporting multiple heavies use either the boundless (you'll need loyalty points for this) or the six kin. - If you are running 2 logis and one heavy, I found the following works well... One logi uses the core focussed and stays close to the heavy, the other uses the six kin and reps both the logi and the heavy while hanging a bit further back. - While the heavy is reloading (this takes for ever), you should stop repping and lay down supressing fire to prevent being rushed by opponents.
3. Tips for running a solo medic. - Equip your dropsuit for survival first and support second as you'll be firing your weapon more than repping. I prefer equiping my logi for speed when running solo (see ferroscale plates). - Prototype repair tools are not necessary. I run the BDR2 when running solo as it costs less and is easier to equip without having to give up shields and armor. - Look for opportunities to support the team, but don't expect them to help you with positioning. - Typically when running solo, I participate in the fire fight and rep during down times (as opposed to repping all the time and only firing when the heavy is re-loading as stated above in the teaming up advice). - If you find a good heavy, stick with him. Learn to spot crappy/reckless heavies and don't follow them, a quick top up with the repair tool and off you go. - Try flanking and performing other light assault functions. Keep in mind that you are still squichy so use stealth rather than the direct approach.
How do you kill that which has no life?
