Not trolling either, I think this is a very interesting topic.
What do you feel brings the amount of unprofessional whining not typically seen in other communities in regards to balance? Plenty of games are not very balanced, but only in the Dust community do you see such a large amount of teenage angst surface in what are theoretically full grown adults. |

Beastlina wrote:Dust is a shooter (skills based game) and also an mmo (time and investment based game) this game is not all skill, that's a fact. That means some people can be more competitive without being as good as the person they are beating because of skill bonuses from suits, ehp, and weapon damage output. There IS a lot of skill involved but time played and role chosen affect performance as well. It makes sense that people would complain more here as opposed to a game forum like say, league of legends where the game is entirely skill based beside earning runes which everyone is able to do relatively quickly.
EDIT: Just wanted to add that these forums are probably the most mature that i have ever witnessed for an online game. Especially compared to LoL or any asian style mmorpg forum. Where most people give unrelated answers to legit questions to try and get a laugh or an upvote.
This is a good point.
I personally like Rattati's attitude towards balance, but I think he has an impossible job. There doesn't seem to be a way to placate the community on anything. If the scout does what it needs to do, its overpowered to everyone else. If the heavy does what its supposed to do, it's overpowered to everyone else. If the assault can kill any target, nobody feels the need to play anything else. If the logi can't kill anything, he's underpowered, and if he can kill other people he's better then the assault therefore overpowered.
If tanks are better than infantry, zomg how dare they be better thats not fair. If tanks are as good as infantry, then whats the point of spending the money on a tank?
It's an endless cycle of stupid arguing. |

If we assume they listened to the community feedback and researched it, the game wouldn't be in this condition at all. Massive updates with now Dust limited to just hot fixes means they're not so much listening to what the feedback is but basically keeping the ship from sinking. If this game were a ship, it'd be the Titan after hitting an iceberg where everyone in charge is calm and collective and unable to **** bricks as to the horrible fate awaiting them. This ship WILL sink and it's not a case of "if" but "when". Anyone since launch knows the litany of rants that have plagued this game. And while I agree the playerbase doesn't always knows what's best, the same can be said of the developers too. And unless i take Rat's words out of context, hotfixes and no updates means they can only do so much to effect the game dynamics. The fact that we're still tweaking game balance a year into the game isn't a positive sign in any way, shape or form. The old counter strike community....They probably created the first ever rage quits and memes on it before anyone. They're probably on the top 3 of all-time youtube worthy moments even. The difference is that a lot of ppl have had time to adjust to raging since then. It's not like it's disappeared but has only shrunk. There's also the new player-dev frame of communications whether it be forums or social media where you can vent your rage. Back then you'd just take a keyboard and whack the guy next to you.
So, cut the devs out of the picture entirely and you think people will start to shut up? |

I wouldn't. I don't play any game I know It's impossible for me to become the top in. MOBA's and RTS are in that category.
Fighting games and FPS are not out of my reach though, so I endure. |

The fact that people complain about balance in the game proves that people are competing on some level. The only reason to complain is because things are not going their way, and for something to not go there way they have to be trying to win and failing -- ergo, competing.
It may be on a player scale instead of a team scale, but there is competition happening.
And as far as PC goes, only psuedo-rivalries exist due to demotivational mechanics inherent in the system.
Dust as a game may be bad, but that doesn't mean people aren't attempting to compete in it. Quality =/= competition. Now if you're not actually playing the game, then all that means is you're not competing. That doesn't mean anything about the rest of the playerbase. |

Strong argument you made there.
Do I need to draw another silly picture of you getting hit by a fireball? |

All competition requires is two players who both seek to win and happen to be at odds with one another.
Fairness is not a requirement, quality is not a requirement. Therefore Dust is competitive. |

I too have the capability of posting in the hello kitty island adventure forums, yet common sense would dictate I do not as I have no intention of actually playing the game. |
