I've been hearing a lot of griping and complaining about the way some of the assault suits are performing, especially the shield tanked ones. In light of this, I will drop some knowledge on you all. Anyone here who is also a capsuleer will be familiar with information as fighting philosophy is almost identical to
-Gallente The in-your-face brawlers, Gallente assaulters move fast and hit hard at close range while darting in and out of cover. Their natural armor repair means that they can remain logi independent. Because of this, it's best to reinforce this type of tank with armor repair modules and/or reactive plates. Using plates, while it does boost your armor and does work to some degree, it hinders the role the suit was meant to perform. The racial bonus is also designed around this role. Strafing around your target fast enough to not be hit the whole time and repairing any damage sustained while dishing your own out in CQC.
Caldari Long story short, the #SWERVE ***** suit. This assault is not especially meant to engage in close quarters. Shields and CQC don't mix well. This role is best served fighting from a distanice in an over watch position. The Rail rifle helps accomplish this with its high accuracy at distance. The bonus combined with the RR allows you to keep up the pressure as any lull in the fire allows your target to advance to you which is bad for your health and your wallet.
Minmatar Aka you're not going fast enough. Might as well name your fitting Tribes: Ascend because speed is your friend. While shield tanked, you can fight in close for short durations. Hit and run is the name of the game as you can't tank like the rest of them. If you can't quickly engage and eliminate targets quickly , disengage and reattack from a different location. The magazine bonus this suit gives to the combat rifle makes it ideal for ambushes as well. Use your speed to quickly flank a group of enemies, dump your magazine and get out. Wash rinse repeat.
Amarr Three words: stand. And. Deliver. These suits are meant to take the most punishment and dish it right back. This suit is by far the most easiest suit to fit. Plates in the lows and damage mods in the high slots. Having a lot of armor but no regen means it's always a good idea to keep a logi nearby, or at least keep a repping hive, though with such high ehp you'd be the next best thing to a sentinel and logis would be more than happy to give you some love. This suit works well at all ranges and both offensive and defensive roles. At long range the heat reduction makes the laser rifle unparalleled in damage output, only followed by the Amarr commando. At close range, you can never go wrong with the scrambler. This suit is ideal for direct engagements and plowing through heavy resistance in an attack as well as rock solid defense when a little more mobility is required than what a sentinel can offer without sacrificing Ehp.
