I have done some test yesterday with level 3 on incubus and federation ion cannon, and here are my day 1 conclusions.
ItGÇÖs a little better, but still not enough to give the blaster a real use on an incubus (or on any dropships by the way).
Good points : - Damages are good
- Dispersal is maybe a bit too fast (but to have a fast decrease compensate greatly)
- Blaster has become pretty good at destroying uplinks and nanohives on roofs and to kill snipers on towers (but thatGÇÖs a lot of ISK and SP to spend just to do that)
- HEAVY damages on shields provided you can stay in range
Bad points : - The range : for what I have see, the optimal range is between 20 and 25 meters, that is simply not enough. The moment you enter at optimal range, you can barely open fire that you are already over the target (and good luck to do something without the first person view)
- optimal range and effective range : I have to test it more, but for what I have seen, once you are beyond optimal range, you deal almost NO damages (I will have to investigate this more precisely, my target was a python at more or less 30 meters)
- Shield regeneration : while you can deal heavy damages to shields oriented vehicles, the regeneration is so fast that if you overheat/reload, the enemy will have all itGÇÖs shield back. The problem come from the current mechanic to stop shield regeneration is to inflict enough damages with a SINGLE hit.
- War points : the same mechanic for the shield regeneration apply for WP, so if you have the luck to destroy a vehicles, you will only get the destruction and no +75WP for damages.
What to do : - Give the blaster a range bonus to make it effective at 40 to 50 meters (far less than missile or rail), and with the dispersal to compensate, you wonGÇÖt have sniping ADS like you had sniping blaster tanks
- Change the damages mechanic to stop shield regeneration to a number of damages per second. It wonGÇÖt change anything for the other turrets small or large, but would give a great boost to small blaster. Same thing for the war points.
I will try to make a more precise feedback at a later date and maybe even a video to underline the current problems of the small blaster.

Using it as a Side Turret for gunners is pretty good.
Bad thing is, small missiles are still the best turret all around.
There's just no draw back to missiles.
They do high damage, you don't even have to hit your enemy and it has a nice RoF for something that can to that.
Small Rails have advantages over small Missiles but Small Blasters have no advantage over small Missiles besides being more satisfying to use.

The blaster works very good for gunners cause they can actually aim precisely with it. And no to higher range and Av capability. The turret is supposed to be a 100% anti infantry weapon so if you want to destroy vehicles use small rails or missiles. The devs where very clear in that aspect.
They say when you die you see a white light which then forms the line of:

I didn't have the chance to test the blaster as a broadside turret yet. You are probably right about the blaster being an anty-infantry only. However, for the moment, the few you can do with a blaster on an ADS is simply not enough. In the end, the blaster turret should be for the incubus what the missile turret is today. Very efficiant at supporting infantry by destroying equipment and damaging/killing infantry. But in order to do that, a range increase is truly needed for a FRONT blaster. Maybe a bonus on the incubus like 5 meters to optimal and effective range per level for hybrid plasma (rail already have a good range).

Please stop trying to make it good for ADSs. Just the very nature of the weapon makes it impractical.
It's supposed to be a short range, high DPS, anti-infantry weapon. Both rails and missiles are much better suited for DSs. I could see it used as a side turret if you'd actually be doing things like hotdrops and evacs, but not as the main weapon to an ADS.
Where I could really see it shine is on LAVs. I tried a blaster on my Methana yesterday and can say it worked pretty well. I could see having a gunner and driver working together with that. |

It should be just as effective on a dropship as it is on a Lav. It should fire at 750rpm and it should be long range preferably 300 meters maximum doing minimum damage 20% at 300m 60% at 150m 100% at 75 meters. This would mean in a Lav at 75 meters you are good to go. In a dropship its good to but very dangerous because of swarms and other av weapons. |

Actually for dealing with forge gunners missile launchers are suboptimal because unless you land a direct hit, if the jerk is rocking Sentinel 5 (Hint: This would be me) he enjoys a 25% reduction to the blast damage shaved right off the top of his buffer. Unless it's a breach forge, he is not a stationary target (Unless he's suicidal).
If the DPS on the blasters is close to an HMG then it might be worth using for clearing rooftops of AV gunners.
Expensive vehicle to test it on. But worthy of a look-at. |

I've always had a idea of putting 3 blasters on an Incubus and going on strafing runs with it, does that work at all these days? |

I love the blaster on the incubis... 1v1 with a forge gunner, I'd take that over missiles any day... Pops them in no time... The range is fine, the only problem is the same with all turrets, the ads controls don't allow for precision aiming so at a distance you move 1mm to the left and it grazes them, then you move it back and do the same again, unless you get lucky or happn to be flying at them.
Pretty much all the blaster needs is a proper 1st person control, so we can look down without flying down. |

20GJ Railgun > Small Missile Turret
Only for AV purposes, the small railgun simply isn't accurate enough for AI and Anti-Support roles. The problem with the blaster at least on the Dropship is that the range and dispersion aren't good enough, in order to take out your enemies with any form of effeciency requires you being 10m from your target.
Anything more than that and you can't do enough damage to do anything but graze the shields of even infantry, it's supposed purpose. When it comes to Dropships blasters need a unique buff, only applicable to dropships, they need a longer range and no dispersion decay.
If this doesn't happen a blaster isn't going to be a regular on any Assault Dropship, the missile is just much better for the job right now.
