Lol, even a range and damage debuff would be better than this nonsense. It's unbelievable. SNIPERS ARE NERFED EVERY TIME IN EVERY UPDATE. AND EVEN IN BETWEEN UPDATES. If Symbiotic's vids haven't shown the dynamism Sniping adds to this game yet then I don't know what will.
Whatever. Kill Sniping. You will still have red line snipers and you will still have people complaining about snipers. What you won't have are people like Symbiotic who actually progress sniping and make it legitimate and respected.
I for one quit. Screw this. See you on legion. Assuming it's not just another COD clone after they decide to get rid of long range engagements all together because all of you don't have enough sense to keep moving and find cover then come on the forums and complain about how you can't kill a sniper with your shotgun.

Now lets take our sniper pinpointer, make it multispectrum able to pick up even the fastest of sniper rounds. Then lets make drop suit armor or shields behave as a trophy like system that flings out bits of itself to deflect a sniper round so greatly that is has then zero chance to penetrate or do any force impactful damage. Being over 450 meters + completely nullifies rounds.
This is a sci-fi game; realism is by far no grounds for balance discussion; only new ideas and game play options. So when I can pull current tech together that maybe a few more years of development could help nullify even that grounds of arguments of realism entirely as in making sniper roles potentially extinct in a manner that knights in armor went extinct in the face of guns.
For example the age of the armored tank is over. Most next gen tanks are not even going to bother with impact penetration prevention. They're focusing on agility, speed, stealth, and not getting shot in the first place.
Either way back to the assumed role.
1. Do current snipers intimidate? Yes. There is nothing more satisfying than watching people panic to their deaths after a single sniper and their only recourse is to jump off a ledge that is just low enough to not allow inertia damping activation. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing people quickly abandon a high point because the constant pelting of sniper fire is making the rooftop completely the worst spot to be. There is nothing more satisfying than watching an entire squad wither under merciless fire as they run around in the open field without cover and I am doing all this; just outside the range of their snipers. If they'd only move 50 meters closer they would still outrange me and would be able to protect their friends; but they're too afraid.
1b. Where snipers intimidating in pre 1.8 delta? No, people ignored the damage completely usually and went about their business as you where as a sniper at most, a minor annoyance. Heavies? forget about killing them took multiple magazines sometimes. Post Delta heavies are wearing brown pants more often these days, the sniping ones are winding up dead usually now.
2. Hotfixes really do not involve that much programming (though the most technical changes do) but sniper stats is as simple as an excel sheet number change.
3. Learn to read your enemies and battle flow you can remain very safe if you specially place your team between you and enemies. It is very very rare for the reds to break through your team to get to you specifically. They're too busy murdering or getting murdered by your team.

Also, sniper rifles are more powerful than they have ever been, with MLT snipers being capable of OHKing a majority of suits. A Charge sniper with the right mods and skills can OHK any suit. Any suit. Get closer and shoot them in the head scrub.
There are 2 fits that can survive actually; and survive a headshot from a charge but you're giving up so so so much to do so.
Though.... that officer variant...
