So currenty I have Prof. 3 on the CR and getting up to 5 is really hard. The fact that I skill in suits than prof. is what i normally do. So is it really worth it to skill into prof.5? Do you see any difference? If not i'm spending millions of sp on a weapon where i could spent on a suit.

Prof 5 or die. That small percentage damage increase is always worth it. There are many guys who think prof 3 or 4 is all they need...until they face that Prof 5. |

To the OP, I went prof. 5 in the MD, and it makes a big difference. I can only imagine how a prof. 5 rifle with DMG mods feels. I'm guessing something along the lines of a hot knife through butter?

Wasted SP in my opinion. Lvl3 is enough beyond that the SP costs are too much compared to the benefit.

I'd say get your Ammunition up to Level III, and then max out your Sharpshooter.

it comes down to skill points spent to advantages gained after level 3. Example say I wanted Proto level Logistics (I'm already minmatar logistics pro since 1.2), I look at the pros and cons. If the pros outweigh the cons then it is worth it. In this case I gain 5% decrease in equipment per level and I gain a rep tool bonus per level. Overtime that becomes a very useful skill since I gain a proto suit, the skill works across all minmatar logistics suits and it makes the repair tool more viable in battle.
Now for weapon proficiency, when you start out it is totally worth it. But once you hit level 3 the skill point cost are extremely high. So is gaining an additional 3% worth it after level 4 counting the man hours spent to gain the sp required to get to level 5? depends on you the person, the dropsuit, and the playstyle.
I have my CR proficiency at 4 and never looked back nor have thought into making it level 5.
Hope this helps.

Then, go for Proficiency. Yup. And that goes for all weapons that have it (AR/CR/SMG, etc). Sharpshooter doesn't look 'sexy', but the fact is, you're getting a DPS boost by the simple fact that you are landing more bullets. Extra damage from proficiency is meaningless if your bullets aren't hitting your target.
Take Sharpshooter to 5 before you do anything else, and thank me with an ISK donation later.

its FREE damage, and most importantly its not subject to diminishing returns and stacking penalties.
it makes damage mods BEAST MODE in the current meta where nobody uses them, and after charlie drops and lights get a buff to dmg mods (AND sidearms LOL at OP SMG with dmg mods and prof 5) its absolutly worth it to hit prof 5 and use at least one damage mod, especially when using the assault varient and trying to eat scouts and heavys that the current meta is churning out.

level 4 proficiency if you use it as your main weapon, but 3% for 777k skill points? Not worth it IMO unless you have nothing else to spend it on.

If its your favorite gun, max EVERYTHING. But i recommend rapid reload & sharpshooter LAST. Why? Proficiency takes longer to max than other skills. AND unti you get rapid reload & sharpshooter the proficiency will MORE then make up for it. But once you max your entire skill tree; BEAST MODE.

After waiting so long for that gun, I maxed it the day it was released.
Prof 5 is quality, I'd do it if I was you.

I have never spent the SP to go prof 5 in any weapon and I have 50m SP.. its not worth it. The only 2 weapons I would go into prof 5 is Forge and Plasma Cannon, both I have yet to do so. If the guy I fight has prof 5 and I have prof 4 but he kills me everytime so be it, thats fair play; theyve invested I havent.
EDIT: I have Prof 4 in all my weapons

I aim down the sights and just shot people and still get very good results without sharpshoter. Dude, I respect your position as a longtime vet, but you are waaaaaaaaaay off base on this one, my man. Sharpshooter is essential, especially if you play heavy -- you can't defend yourself from a distance without it, it makes a noticeable difference. Besides, all the stats in Dust makes this FPS basically a game of inches -- 2% here, 5% there, it never sounds like much, but all taken together, it makes all the difference in the long run.
In response to the OPs question about what Sharpshooter does: in terms of how FPSs are programmed, bullets fired from a gun are programmed as a cone, with the apex of the cone at the weapon. The bullets are then, programmatically speaking, random generated rays inside that cone.
From a 2 dimensional perspective (the view point of your screen), practically speaking this means that rifles/SMGs have a hidden circle in the center of the screen where all the bullets will land, which needs to be on the target to hit. Sharpshooter narrows that cone, the effect being that the shots fired fall closer to the weapon's reticle on the screen -- basically, making your gun more accurate.
It may not make much of a difference when you are up in somebody's grill, but it makes all the difference in the world when your at a distance, your clip runs out on your AR/CR and you can't take the time to reload.
