This got me so annoyed I had to log in and post instead of just reading a few posts then playing Dust.
Forge Guns are for AV. I'm fed up of them being used against infantry (especially by campers).
Give them a dispersion like the tanks got, that way they can still hit vehicles but not be used as a sniper rifle.

It hasn't been updated, look at the Rail gun nerf. It was intended to be mid range. It used to say mid range on the old descripiton years ago. The new description doesn't mention range

Loads of weapons have a chgarge time and your screen practically lights up red for you when it it is aiming at an enemy.... You don't need a cross hair (unless your bad).

A half decent player isnt affected by your last two points. I could kill 20/30 per game with it if I wanted too.
4 round mag.... 4 possible kills before reload. Putting a clip into a proto heavy isnt enough with most other weapons before reload.

The new description doesn't mention range It has been updated, it used to have a range of around 600 meters like the rail turret and was nerfed at the same time as the rail turret if I recall correctly.
I may be wrong about the range then. But when I started playeing in closed beta I remember in the description it said mid range, might have changed it now though
