Hell that's what I always resort to in a proto stomp, only way to really guarantee I take some of them with me. I love the domination map with the little pit objective, while all the players are spawning brick tanked heavies with logis moving at the speed of smell, I just spawn a forge fit. I've gotten some triple beam ohkos from that map. |

BUT bf4 maps make long range op weapons only good at the right time and place . think about it
Yeah I've been saying this for a while. If CCP really cared to actually balance the game they need to at least try to be scientific about it. But they have always balanced and nerfed things in the same patches creating useless data mining. Like how they nerfed av while completely reworking vehicles in 1.7 only to months later undue most of the av nerfs because they should of done one or the other in the first place. It will never end if they keep packing in as much change as possible to create too many variables to quantify.
I think the biggest thing they could of done to heavies was just forget the stupid tooltip and make the hmg work like blasters do, where over time it becomes less accurate but does as much damage as the assault combat rifle. This makes it a good spray weapon for softening up and flat out killing groups on point defense while not doing what it does now, and wrecking everyone it looks at. It should be a suppression weapon like light machine guns are in actual combat.
Sentinels and basic heavies using light weapons was mostly an issue of new berries not abusing their poor mobility. That's why people are running scout assaults over medium assaults because mobility is king. |

Most sentinels with at least a little SP into their rolls will survive a forge gun shot and still have a decent amount of health remaining. Breach forges are the only guarantee.
Only Amarr and Gallente and they should be left with so little of hp that your teammates should finish them off. If its just you then you run into the issue of a forge gun shouldn't be in a hmgs range giving you another shot on their brick tanked grandma suit and if he has friends you are going to likely lose because he has friends and you don't. |

I like plasma cannons too but you might as well shotgun in most situations as you have to get close or they have to be stupid to walk into a long distance PLC shot. Once they see you the jig is up. The forge on the other hand is almost instantaneous up to 300 meters.
If you are bunny hopping right up to them with a PLC you could just as easily be bunny hopping up to them with a shotgun.
That's why I typically prefer the forge, because a 6 man proto team has a hard time usually with 300 meter targets as long range weapons aren't as popular in the meta while a PLC is guaranteed to die after they hit one target if they hit one target at all. |
