By the way, a small request.
Whenever possible, could you try making me and Kador go together? Go on the same missions, cover each other and help each other through everything(and possibly die together if it comes to that) etc. Considering they are such close friends, it'd be cool to have it cross over to other games.
Thanks!

Operation "Defiant Sentinel" Landing Site
Squad on Site:
Cpl. Ghost Kaisar : Sniper Sq. Bayeth Mal : Assault Sq. Jace Jenkins: Heavy Cpl. Frost Kitty : Support
Details:
Set down in the woods. Ghost takes a vantage point and sets up with squad site. Squad takes down 3 X-rays with no damage taken. We start to press up along the left side, where we have high ground and cover.
Squad of thin men pop up. Ghost once again works his magic and takes one down. Ghost already has 3 kills, and he has only fired 2 shots. Jenkins lights up #2. #3 goes and critically wounds Kitty in one freaking shot. Great. Kitty was the only one with medpacks. I have three turns to finish this before Kitty bleeds out.
Spend a turn trying to chase down the lone Thin man. Kitty is pretty much gone. Nothing I can do. I don't think I want a critically wounded soldier with a will reduction anyways. We have more supports where needed.
Turns out the Thin Man is a freaking camper. He shoots Jace right as he runs by. Outsider then critically wounds Jace. FFS.
Kitty is gone. Down to two soldiers. Kitty wastes the Thin Man the next turn.
FFS!
3 floaters drop in. It's now 4 on two. Re-position both members miss targets. Bayeth gets hit by a floater. More missed shots.
Outsider kills Mal. I now have a lone sniper who is surpressed in zero cover. He dies next turn.
Squad Wipe.

Operation "Lost Hyrda" Crashed UFO
Squad on Site:
Sgt. Zatara "Clutch" Raught : Support Sgt. Mad "Matty" Monk : Heavy Cpl. Appia Vibbia : Assault Sq. Shotty GoBang : Sniper
Details:
Woods. Squad advances with zero contact. Slow and steady does it.
After about 5 turns, we finally encounter our first thin men. They retreat.
WTF!! GoBang gets insta killed by Thin Man. So does Monk. Both Crit hits. Zatara Panics. I put Appia into Hunker down to protect her from death if the worst happens.
Thin man runs right up to her (Hunker down hid her or something?) She wastes him in one shot, and Zatara kills the other. Next round, I have Zatara go and heal Appia from Poison.
Slow advance up to UFO. Reveal 3 Floaters. Zatara takes a shot at one, and misses. Appia flanks around and Insta-kills one.
Zatara survives by targets missing multiple shots in a row. RNG must be having mercy on me now.
Zatara opens fire on floater in zero cover. Still misses. Maybe I should have him start throwing grenades...
Appia moves up and misses an 85% shot as well.
Both open fire, but can't even deal three total damage to a single target. Appia is flanked and crit killed.
Zatara is now flanked and has to reload.
Zatara still can't hit the broadside of a barn. He gets killed as well.
Squad Wipe. Gonna have to start over. Ironman is relentless, and if you don't have a vet squad by this time, you will just slowly die in the long run.
Oh well.

Classic Ironman is borderline unfair.
Troopers have less health, enemies have more. It costs more to hire new soldiers. You start out with less etc...
You will fail far more than succeed in this mode. It's tough as hell.
Like I put earlier, it's just not even funny sometimes. My guys couldn't even be shot ONCE due to damage. It's a race to keep casualties to a minimum until you get armor. And even then, you need the money to support the armor. But you also have to plan in the long run and have satellites up and running, along with interceptors to protect.
It's hard to manage on both the combat and logistical front.

Read the reports. I don't take chances. I use explosives to remove cover, nuke multiple targets and to guarantee kills.
Last two missions were just bad luck IMO. Lots of Insta-kills where I can't do anything. If I can shoot them, they can shoot me. Having nobody get hit is impossible most of the time.
Classic is not for the faint of heart. It's even advertised as "An extreme challenge for experienced XCOM players only"

One of the things XCOM does incredibly well if gets you to care about your soldiers.
You want to see them succeed and get them out of the mission, often as not you develop particular likes and dislikes amongst the squads.
You might love your main hero....one always develops/is in the right place at the right time.
You will hate the coward who panicked and gunned down your medic..... but survived the mission.
Thats why doing write ups for the missions is so easy for XCOM. I mean we had threads from a couple of months back of myself, Denak, and Jakar doing our own mission write-ups with Forum players.
They make for good stories.
From my experience in Iron Man its a combination of being able to keep your guys alive and build up your tech and resources. You need to scrub missions entirely if you are about to lose veteran characters..... as without them the natural development of enemy encounter toughness progresses to fast.
I mean I always go for advanced armour first, then laser tech second and I try to do it before the fist main mission encounter. So even before i did the Sectoid Commander I was encoutering Muton's and those nastly slicy alien things that damn near made me abandon the whole of Asia after the first encounter.
The moment you hit plasma tech and Titan Armour though............... you have no equal save for Cyberdisks.

Part II:
Okay, so I started out in Africa for the Income bonus.
I had to replay the opening a few times to get a base that wouldn't kill me in the long run. I got a steam vent on the second level that's easy to get to.
Opening level had no deaths. This campaign is ready to go!
Operation "Sudden Nightfall" Abduction
Squad on Site:
Sq. Ghost Kaisar : Sniper Rk. Appia Vibbia Rk. Frost Kitty Rk. Disgruntled Dev
Details:
Map is Parking lot with buildings.
Targets come to us this time around. From the Right side of the lander. Good. Saves me time. Moving my sniper a bit lights up 4 targets.
Ghost does some pistol work and seriously wounds a target. Kitty goes on overwatch. Dev moves to flank with Appia. I hope to force them to split fronts. Kitty lights up an X-ray with her reaction shot. Ghost takes damage.
Ghost snipes an X-ray. Kitty makes a target waste a reaction shot and then grenades an X-ray. Appia takes advantage of the open flank and wastes another. Dev goes on overwatch.
Dev wounds an X-ray with overwatch. X-rays don't fire, but maneuver. Dev Grenades another X-Ray. Appia wounds another X-ray with a grenade. Kaisar finishes off with Pistol.
1 X-ray left with 1 HP.
He just goes into overwatch. Frost wastes him.
Good start. Lets hope we can keep it.

Operation "Fallen God" (That sounds cool) Crashed UFO
Squad on Site: Sq. Frost Kitty : Support Sq. Appia Vibbia : Assault Sq. Disgruntled Dev : Sniper Rk. Arkenea Wyrnspire
Details:
Woods again. I hate woods. Nothing good ever happens in these things. Advance toward site.
Slow advance. Still no sign of target.
Finally find targets. Two X-Rays. Appia does some overwatch Pistol work and deals a bit of damage. Aliens miss both shots.
Dev does some pistol work too (This is why snipers need squad sight.). Appia runs up and shotguns one in cover.
Remaining X-ray Runs. I take the time to reload and reposition. Moving reveals targets to the right. Rest of squad sets back up to attack. Sectoid that ran tries to flank now. This is why I kept Arkenea facing that direction. Easy kill for promotion.
Sit and wait to try and force them to move on us. They do. Dev takes off the head of the first guy to move with his sniper rifle.
We move across the road with Dev on Overwatch. Detect sounds from Saucer. X-ray bursts out of cover again. Dev gets another kill.
Onto the saucer then. When I move Arkenea and Appia into position, I reveal the Outsider. He has them in a bad cover (not flanked), so I pop smoke on them.
Once again, It was no help. He insta kills Appia.
Everyone but Dev Panics.
Dev Pulls off a clutch headshot.

Squad on Site:
Cpl. Ghost Kaisar : Sniper Sq. Mad Monk : Heavy Sq. Frost Kitty : Support Rk. Princess Zatata
Details: Flooded Highway.
Ghost sets up behind cover with good view of field. Zatata and Monk head right. Frost takes the left.
Sound reveals them to be in front of us. Continue with my Pincer. Squadsight should let Ghost nail anyone from this range. Slow Advance.
God, cover is bad here. Slow advance, no targets. Thankfully, the land is flat. Ghost doesn't even have to move.
Finally found the group. 4 Targets. Ghost nails the one furthest. From like a mile away.
Kitty lays down smoke on both himself and Monk. Zatata Hunkers down for defense.
I move Monk one space and he reveals more targets. Good thing he's in cover.
Monk wastes another X-ray. Ghost repositions. Zatata moves to protect flank.
Ghost takes off another X-ray's head. Monk Rockets an X-ray in full cover after two missed attacks.
I give everyone a chance to finish off the last guy before Ghost claims another kill. They all Miss, Ghost nails the last one.

Coucil Mission: Bomb Disposal Operation "Morbid Jester"
+Money +Panic Reduction
Squad on Site:
Cpl. Mad Monk : Heavy Sq. Arkenea Wyrnspire : Assault Sq. Frost Kitty : Support Rk. Princess Zatata :
No snipers. Bomb Disposal takes a lot of moving.
I have one close by, so I have Zatata move to it. Reveal Thin Man. Thin Man Crit Kills Zatata. Oh well.
Kitty moves up and Disarms. Then Wastes the Thin Man.
Disarm another node. Frost Reveals targets to the far right. Runs to cover and gets hit by reaction shot. Medkits himself under cover. Disarm more nodes.
Monk Rockets an X-ray in cover. Arkenea wastes another.
X-ray comes out of nowhere and flanks Arkenea. Crit Killed.
Monk Misses both shots on X-ray. Next turn, he repositions and flanks the target. Sectoid makes an impossible reaction shot. Kitty is down to 2 HP. Hunker down in full cover to avoid death.
Careful manuvering and use of cover lets us take down this sectoid in full cover. We move in and disarm bomb.
Wave Incoming. This should be fun. Reload and find cover.
Crap. 3 jump down. All of them flank Arkenea. Reaction shot wounds 1 to 1 HP. Arkenea kills another. Monk Kills another. Monk Misses the last guy (The one with 1 HP)
